Huawei B535 on 3 major problems.

update from Twitter - some customers are having trouble with large downloads of Xbox Live files over our network (streaming and playing games are unaffected). we’re working hard to fix the issue asap, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime -Suzi

I haven't really been following the discussion around the Xbox issue as I don't own one myself, but those that have had it, have any of you tried an alternative DNS.

With the reported 'swap-out-of-the-internet-connection-after-starting' and working on 3G both seeming to be a work around I'm curious if there is a DNS resolution issue on Three's 4G side (or they've black-listed some URLs).

So that’s a different router being used so it’s not the B535. Agreed it seems to be all pointing at Three 4G.

Switching to 3G in router setting seemed to be working for me last night after not working earlier in the week.
I spoke too soon. Switching to 3G has stopped working for me again.

Having so many game updates and the snail speed of 3G downloads (that only work intermittently) make this all rather painful.

Spoke to three today, they confirmed they have a problem with xbox, and they are having server trouble.
Fast.com showing 2.3 mb speed, but Google speed test showing 91mb, and speed checker showing 19Mb, so I think Gavin is right, the DNS could be the source of the problem. Not that I can do anything about that?

If you mean you're using a Huawei B535 and can't change the DNS server IPs that it hands out via DHCP, then yes you can - see my post here:

Oh, and I should have said that changing DNS servers won't solve your XBox download problem. You could try switching to 3G instead of 4G. Or perhaps a VPN service may help (Windscribe VPN offers 10Gb/month free with an extra 5Gb if you Tweet about them).

As changing the DNS doesn't solve the issue then it can't (just) be that. Presumably three are blocking something along the path from the Xbox to the Xbox servers and back again.

Not sure if there is a way to detect or capture the URL/IP requests that are being made from the xbox (wireshark or pihole, maybe?) and tracert them to see where they're failing - not that that would help fix things, but could show where the blockage is.

Is this just connected to xbox? Since the past few weeks, my router keeps saying im connected, but i cant access any data. when i put the sim in my phone, im back getting data.

My summary
* There is a 2.2 or so Mbps restriction seen on fast.com/netflix (maybe other sites) if GoBinge is enabled - fixed by removing it
* XBox downloads reported as failing
* Page loading 'stalls' reported [hurts me!]
* Changing DNS does not help
* So far not seen reports phones used via tethering are affected
* Reports of other 4G routers affected
* B535 works well on other networks
* Reports seem to be in many areas, not clear if specific masts only (load?equipment manufacturer? Band? etc....)

My feeling is that one of these may be true:
* Only those using a router/MBB service are noticing the stalls/download issues even though they affect all devices - perhaps because of the expectation of mobiles sometimes having connection issues, but bb routers being more reliable (lol, as if)
* There is some account setup specific to Mobile broadband sims that is changing the way traffic is managed (ie APN, but could be other..)

I've not personally been in front of my B535 this week, but my next step is to go back and try the APN change again (3Internet->three.co.uk). I can't see anything else I can change that may make a diff. (other than 3G only). Beyond that it's three cs, forums, and cancelation/moving net.

It may be that the connection settings in your phone are different to those in your router device. Specifically, the APN used on phones seems to be different to that used on routers.

What an excellent summary (along with the router/phone APN difference you mentioned in a subsequent post). You should work for Three - they badly need people that understand network issues :)

To be honest, they badly need people who are able to communicate. It’s taken ages for for them to admit that there even is a problem with all of us encountering a range of different excuses and fob offs.

I don't think its Three's lack of people "who are able to communicate". I think if they were allowed too, it'd be too negative for the driving force behind the Marketing team plus the mere acknowledgement of major nationwide network issues would drown out their services self proclaimed greatness.

Changed my APN to three.co.uk but noticed I still get a problem with
"Alexa, play BBC world service"

... this works fine on vodafone ....
I tried then switching the DNS to 8.8.8.8
... same issue

Though I'll now leave as is and see if the stalling issue occurs.

But now the alexa issue is bugging me too

Just rebooted alexa and it's back -- maybe picked up the new dns settings.. will see.

Interestingly, and unfortunately, the download speed on three tonight seems down to 19 Mbps. Last weekend it was about 30 Mbps (Vodafone was > 100 Mbps in my area)

After a few days of looking I came across this page and realised it wasnt just me having issues with downloading games on xbox live at first I just thought my xbox was acting up but after setting up a hotspot on my EE phone I realised that surprise surprise three was at fault.

I use the hauwei ai cube and everything was fine never had any major issues until this crap kicked in. Current speeds are in the pic the slowest being the three sim

So I'm still seeing intermittent slow page loads using APN=three.co.uk . It's too early to tell if it's not quite so bad - the delays so far have been in the 10-30s region, not indefinate/minutes, but again comparing with vodafone *on the same pages at almost the same time* it's night and day

Will call three again to report.

You're relentless ability to call them (and not lose the will to live!) is amazing Planetf1. I honestly can't see the point bothering any longer.

Tried three.co.uk APN and indeed latency went from 72ms to 42ms, don't know yet what the xbox will think about it though....
