Strange Issue with Huawei B535 Router on Three Network

Make sure you have node.js installed from here:- https://nodejs.org/en/download/

Got to this page https://github.com/jinxo13/HuaweiB525Router and click on the green "Clone or Download" button > Download Zip. Unzip the file
Hi there, just signed up to say thanks and advise that this also worked for the B715, although I did have to use the github files from your other post.

At first an MTU of 1440 actually made things worse for general browsing. After some experimenting and noticing that the xbox network test kept on reporting an MTU of 1386, I settled on an MTU of 1414 and so far so good. The xbox network test now shows no packet loss and the ping has dropped from 200ms to 80ms. The Sonos is also much more responsive.

It is still early days though as sometimes a simple reboot seemed to fix it for me previously for a day or so. So not concluding that its fixed....yet..!

Just to confirm on 4G+ i saw the hanging issue this morning for the first time, though it was during the time the Xbox was getting 60Mbps. It only did it once however and surfing / streaming on multiple devices at the same time was not effected.

Since my router decided to use multiple channels I've also found the rabbit ears do improve the signal strength, which they didn't before on only one channel. My SINR had dropped from 20dbm to around 9dbm, but with the rabbit ears it jumps back up to 13. (I discovered this by setting the antenna to Auto mode, it instantly swapped to the external bunny ears as I presume they provided a better signal. It wouldn't do this when I was only on Band 3)

I think the hanging issue is down to available bandwidth over the three network. When it struggles and hangs is always at time when latency is higher, which helps convince me that Three's backbone is whats struggling.

Glad it worked, and a good spot on the wrong GitHub page - I've corrected the post!

Since installing the latest firmware update H191SP63C983 for the B535 everything seems to be working much nicer. It could just be that the update has reset the router, but fingers crossed. I have had almost full dl/ul speeds all day.

Does that firmware come with the config setup too? Just wondering if it'd update all version of the B535?

I'm currently running H191SP4C983 and it says on mine no updates available.

Its just a .bin file. I updated it and it left my settings all the same. Definately seems more stable.

Apparently the C983 denotes the region/area the device is set too. So the update will take you from SP4 to SP63.

Where is this latest firmware if we want to manually update?

I've now moved house, and at the new location, no amount of changing MTU is solving the page stalling issue, which is a shame as I'm able to pull down 78Mb/s and upload at nearly 25. I would move to the unlimited EE data deal but can't currently successfully order a data sim until addresses catch up for credit check!

Okay, I can now confirm the the MTU change has made zero difference. I am seeing peak download speeds of 105 down and 31 up but still perhaps 1 in 5 web pages fail to load first time for a few hours each day. With the kids both playing online, I guess I'm going to have to get the FTTC connection live again and go back to download speeds in the low 20s....

What version of the router do you have. What software version is installed on the router? http://192.168.8.1/html/content.html#deviceinformation

Scratch that. I just saw you have the B715. Anyway, see if you are on the latest firmware, sometimes you have to just looking for the updates manually.

Have you considered the B535 from three? You can get it for £29 + £30 1 month contract, but you can return for free in cooling off period if it doesnt help with your connection issues.

I initially used a B525 and had the same issues, so upgraded to the B715 suspecting I had a router fault initially. The B715 is on the latest firmware that I can find, but its really hard to find any.

As the problem was seen on both routers, I'm fairly confident the issue is with the 3 network (or at least local parts of it).

It seems like DNS servers just stop, but I've obviously changed them multiple times to see.

For what its worth, the download speeds of the B715 against the B525 when connected to the same attic aerial are 105 vs 70. Not related to my problem, but potentially useful to someone!

Sounds more like a signal quality issue. what are your signal values like? SINR for example is important for stable connections.

Also adding a VPN has helped some people?

Using HuaCtrl
RSSI is greater than 51
RSRQ is between -4db and -8db
RSRP is between 78 and 79 dBM
SINR fluctuates from from 20 to greater than 26.

I have tried a VPN and it fixed the freezing but there was a serious loss of speed and general snappiness.

Well there is nothing wrong with the signal quality. What sort of antenna are you using?

Its a Poynting 4G-XPOL-A0002.
Well it seems like you have the perfect setup and good stats. Do you get the same issues without the external antenna, I know the stats wont be the same?

I would probably try the B535 just to rule it out as its a newer bit of kit, there is nothing to lose.
