Huawei B535-232 4g/LTE Router Issue

cant wait for 5g, so long as the packages are not a joke.
5g packages on Three should be the same as they are now, as all existing 4G SIM packages are 5G "ready"

Lol 5g is not in my area at present, like most, wouldnt mind getting a router ready to go though.

I've thought about it Roden, but unless you're in a lucky city/large town you'll be waiting at least 5-10 years for 5g I reckon. If the half-decent specced routers were actually affordable it'd help too. Just finding a LTE router with the same sort of CAT rating as a 2 year old phone is neigh on impossible. Those that are, are silly money.

Whilst LTE has so much going for it, there's so many more negatives, I'm now resigned to accept it as "adequate".

Roll on 2030! Lets hope we make it that far!

I've been following this thread for a while as I too have a B535 (unlocked from eBay UK seller), Poynting 4G-XPOL aerial and a Smarty SIM. After following this tread, I'm considering getting a different router particularly one with modern VPN support. The MikroTik Chateau LTE12 looks interesting but rather new. I've seen other MikroTik and and Teltonika kit be recommended with the idea of using a VPN to by pass 3's shaping. My kids play games where latency is key, is the VPN option likely to slow that down too much? I live in a rural area where 4G coverage is OK but not holding my breath and I have another similar location that also want 4G and have asked for advice. Any help greatly appreciated.

On a rather unrelated note, have I managed to click some option to hide all masts on mastdata.com? It used to show me mast locations but now doesn't want to show me any masts anywhere!

I had that the other day. They want you to pay a subscription - the free account only allows a few search results and then it's game over unless you pay. Although, that said, I'm sure it used to give some basic results even on an unpaid account. In the end I gave up and used cellmapper. And I'm pretty sure that mastdata is now several years old, so may not be worth bothering with anymore

I don't actually know the answer to your question I'm afraid, but you'll certainly take a hit on download/upload performance. The only way to know, is to try it out using a limited or trial account (try Windscribe). Unfortunately, the limited/trial accounts don't provide the same performance as paid services, so may not be indicative. With a VPN, you may even find that latency improves. And of course, the B535 doesn't support OpenVPN, so you'd need a router that does really. Sorry to have been of no help whatsoever.

Hi everyone,

I found a solution that worked immediately for me, so I wanted to share it:

I had the same issue (EE SIM in Huawei B535) and had internet on phone/PC/tablets etc. but no smart devices/Xbox Live/Chromecast connecting. No luck with EE or Huawei support (although both tried, to be fair). So here we go:

1. Log in to the router (192.168.8.1).

2. Go to the Network tab.

3. Click to add an APN (plus on the APN list).

4. Create an APN profile (just make up a name) and leave the username and password fields blank.

5. In the IP Type box, select IPv4 (the default is IPv4 & IPv6).

6. Save the profile and set it as the default.

Done!

Suddenly everything connected and works perfectly. No need for a VPN, downswitching to 3G or changing DNS settings (I can't be 100% on this last part, since I'd already changed the VPN settings to Google, but that hadn't made any difference).

I hope that helps some of you!

5. In the IP Type box, select IPv4 (the default is IPv4 & IPv6).
In the B535-232 from Three, there is no "IP Type" box. All you can enter is a username, password & APN name.

I tried this and my router wouldn't connect at all. My router is a B535 bought outright and using a Smarty SIM on the Three network.

The router may not recognise a SMARTY SIM, you maybe need to set the APN to the settings below:

Name: 3
APN: mob.asm.net
User name: [leave this field blank]
Password: [leave this field blank]

It doesn't make any difference anyway. Just the same as before for me.

Would some knowledgeable person please clarify/confirm for me that "double-NATing" when on the Three 4G network, results in the B535 being allocated a Public IP in the form 10.x.x.x ?

Back in January, I phoned Three and asked if they could give me a 'proper' IPv4 address. They indicated they had switched-off "double-NATing" on my account and ever since then I've been getting Public IPs in the form 188.x.x.x or I think 94.x.x.x

However, I've now noticed that around 1st Aug, my B535 indicates it has a 10.x.x.x address. This is caused by "double-NATing" right? And it's possible to request Three to stop it & allocate a proper Public IPv4 address, yes?

10.x is not a public IP range, so yes, there is another device upstream from you assigning you that IP and performing NAT from the 'real' public IP.

The 'double-NAT' situation occurs when your router then also does NAT to connect your personal devices to the internet.

I don't know if it's possible to request Three allocate you a public IP, but using the 3internet APN should do this. If you're using that already then it feels like Three have run out of their pool of public IPs to assign to people and are even implementing GCNAT on 3internet too! Edit: probably not the case. No need to panic.

You're a genius. The problem was my B535 was still using the APN I created to try out lexlang's suggestion above (even although I thought I had deleted it previously). Thanks for the help.

So finally fought my way free from 'Three'....

Long saga, started back in June (18th), when I signed up for the 3 PAYG @£30/month with B535-232 (£29 upfront) and received it next day - whoopee!:)
It seemed to work, 60Mbp+ connection - what wasn't to like?
So I also signed up for the 24month deal @£17/month - thinking I could send the original back within the 14 day 'trial' period.

The second one arrived, but I left it unopened, as I'd started to get problems.
Page freezes, dives down to <2Mbps, problems with streaming channels and worse - my Wife's Candy Crush Saga didn't work properly.

I found this forum and realised I'd opened a can of worms.

So I rang 3 'support' several times for help - fat chance.
4 out of 5 calls didn't go through, either they couldn't hear me, or me them, or I couldn't understand a word they were saying.
BUT I did hear that the 'trial' period was extended for 30 days - so what the hell.

On 2nd July I got through to 3 (using a none 3 phone/SIM 500 number) actually spoke to someone and cancelled the second deal.
I returned it unopened next day., that one was OK, no up-front cost, no account created, so no unwanted bills etc.

Messed about with the PAYG until 9th July (21 days?) and decided to call it a day - by then I'd found Smarty @£18/month and bought myself an external antenna (eBay) and B535-235 from Amazon.

Spent 2 hours and 5 calls trying to get through to 3 again - finally got someone to call ME back and cancelled the PAYG deal and returned the device/package next day.(y)
My phone records calls, so I recorded when I was told I'd get a full refund (£20 c/card included) and the SIM and D/Debit was cancelled.

All sorted, but I still got bills and no £29 refund.....

Waited until the month end and wrote a complaint letter to 3 - still haven't had a reply, but yesterday £29 was refunded to my C/Card.

Hopefully that's the end of it....

Went with Vodafone in the end - similar variable download rates, but no weird network issues - you can get through and understand what their staff are saying - so far.

So be warned, hooking up to 3 is a pain in the ar$e - they are useless!

I liked that story - it was both a comedy & a horror story all in one.

The catalogue of issues 'dealing' with Three are absolutely spot-on & typical. As the man says: "3 is a pain in the ar$e". So if you are reading this thread, do yourself a favour and DONT take out a contract with Three, and wherever possible, if you already have a contract with Three, then cancel it! You won't be sorry.

Indeed, now that Vodafone are coming down in price with the cashback deals, you can get a better service for similar or better prices. There's a deal for Vodafone unlimited max at the moment for under £13 a month with cashback.

I would still use 3 on the 1 month contract though to get a cheap B535 4G router :p
