Hi fellow Techies,
I’ve recently been having issues with my sky broadband where I would have all green lights on the hub, devices saying they’re connected to the wifi but when I went to try and browse it would say that I’m not connected to the internet. I would also find that even though my download speed was at 40mbps at the router when doing a speed check even over Ethernet it would only register say 5-10mbps. I also noticed my Sky Q mini boxes would also drop off as well.
As I’ve been working from home the issue had become more and more noticeable so I rang sky up they booked a visit and although the engineer couldn’t enter he managed to check my setup and everything from outside.
He advised me that there is a current known firmware issue across all the generation of sky hubs which is affecting internal WiFi & Ethernet speed, dhcp renewal and IPv6 issues too. At the time he checked my hub I was on firmware version 1993 but on checking it this morning I am now on 2249 which he advised me is the one which resolves the issues I have been having.
He did advise that sky are still rolling out the firmware upgrades so if you are affected by this I would check what firmware you’re on to see if it is the defective one. He also said that unplugging the router for 15 mins when the issue occurs can help as it refreshes the IPv6 address and also makes the DHCP pool refresh itself as well.
I’ll take my hat off to the chap because he was very honest and open about the issue, didn’t try to pull the wool over my eyes, it was refreshing to have an engineer go everything else is fine however it’s down to a known issue and I can live with that.
So if you’re having issues please check your maintenance page for the firmware as it could be this.
