Openreach FFTP

Hi,
I have a community fibre application with openreach. 12 properties in all.
But Openreach's inital estimate £41k, did not include my property or my immediate neighbour.
Eventually after several wrong estimates, we received a final offer last december of £91k. Obviously indicating to my neighbours that to connect the extra 1/2 mile to the last 2 properties would cost £51k extra. They now want to go ahead, understandably, without us, as we can't finance the extra £51k.
Our broadband speed is 4.5mbps and 4,500 metres from our local exchange on a copper ADLS2 line with Intermitent signals and breakdowns. I have asked Openreach to include us with a port to connect from the FFTP box, enabling us Fast fibre connection, but I have been told this isnt possible, and am not sure why. Although this wouldn't be covered by gigabit vouchers, I am told , although this is also unclear.
Are there any suggestions or information that could help me fight this injustice, before we are completely cut off from any minimum 10mbps, as Government suggets we should be on.
thanks

One of the anomalies of the voucher approach. There must be some specific engineering issues to force this value. OR will provide their fibre based on their current practice which may have spare capacity at your end of the CFP, or not, so it may be impacting the wider design not just your connections. I would hope the planners are considering future works however they are probably obliged not to include non-CFP costs or tap into other budgets. If it was less that £8k it probably qualified under USO so it would have to be a wider initiative.

How is your phone line supplied, overhead?, how many poles?.
Are you in line of sight of any of the other properties?
Who owns the land between you and the other properties?

Hi, Thank you for replying. I am not sure what CFP means, if you may let me know.
We have overhead cables copper ADLS 2 over 4,500 metres. approx 36 poles. There is one line to approx 15 properties, we are on the very end, approx 1/2 mile away from the main group of 10 properties , seeking the FFTP. we have an immediate nextdoor neighbour, so there are 2 properties on the end of the cable run. We have a driveway right of way, along which the poles are placed. It's also bridleway, not sure that getting permissions is an issue.

I contacted Airband and have discussed with Openreach using the existing infastructure poles, and it appeared that this might be possible. However the issue appears to be that the initial cost estimate from openreach is just that a guessimate generated from a computer. I have not had clarification that they have done an on ground survey, but i have had to resign my position as i cannot continue being involved with the application at £51k , and my neighbours want to forge ahead, before the voucher scheme closes march 31st.
I was told by an openraech engineer that the Fibre cable cost £10k a roll.
Not sure how long it is. i have written to Matt Warman Minister for Digital Infastructure and my MP again today.
Any reply, gratefully received

CFP - Community Fibre Partnership
As you represent only a 15% increase in the distance I can't see how they get an over 100% increase. I would seek a better explanation from Openreach.

Hi, thank you, I have asked them so many times, but they just ignore me.
I leave messages with the Rural engagement manager and he just never phones back.In fact you cant leave a message now, just email him.The community Fibre Team haven't even got a phone number, just email and don't reply for weeks, sometimes not at all. Apparently any specifics are 'Commercially Sensitive' being a builder for 30 years, I find this very difficult to stomache. If we said that to our clients, we wouldn't have any and they'd definitely think we were ripping them off.
Sadly, it is now offical that my property is excluded from the Rural Gigabit Hard to reach property gaff, because it's too rural. 10 mins from redditch in the Heart of England.

How disappointing.

One ray of hope may be that you are surrounded by Fibre First so hopefully you will be covered in a future OR phase and not have to contribute.

Short term option is an External/Loft Based router for Outdoor 4G service.
Hi, yes, there appears to be a new scheme being discussed by Government at the moment, but £50k seems a big ask, however I could rot at home for 10 years. I have applied again for the community fibre from Openreach for me and my immediate nextdoor neighbour, so 2 poor souls. I'll have a look at your link and thank you for your time listening to my ranting. We've tried the loft router and it only worked in the bathroom, could sit on the toilet for a while. Problem is part metal roof or Airband possible sight of pole a few fields away, but still I want FFTP for the sake of not ever ever having to think about it again. apart from when the wind blows, it rains or a squirrel chews through it. thanks again

Wow. I've just registered for the OpenReach Community Broadband project but it looks like a may as well give up now. We have just discovered that our nearest neighbours did their own project in the last 12 months and it's sorted. They didn't ask us but since we are about 500m from the nearest house in this project it was probably too expensive to include us. The houses in the opposite direction are further away and on a different phone exchange. So I have registered our 'commmunty' of 3 houses. We are currently guaranteed 1mbps but generally have between 0.5 and 1. We have no mobile signal so 4G isn't an option. Looks like we'll have to live with it!

That's not necessarily the case. There's also the "herding cats" issue: the larger you make a CFP, can also make it harder to get a big enough proportion of people onboard.

So do press ahead with yours and see what happens. If the previous project left a place where they could make a track joint to extend to you, the cost *might* be reasonable. Also, do check if there are rural vouchers available to you, including the local top-up schemes.

We have a CFP with OR and are now in month 15 since signing the contract and are still not connected and have not been given an end date for the project. Emails go unanswered for weeks and are often just ignored.

Take the 12 months OR promise in their contract with a pinch of salt. I’m not sure it will ever finish!

Now seriously considering a Starlink connection as Elon Musks satellite internet service is now available in the UK.

When did you get the go ahead for the 'Delivery' stage? Have you prodded OR on Twitter - this seems to be a good approach for a response?

We moved to the 'Delivery' stage on 15th February, advised by our REM it would be a while before we saw any activity (ie, roadworks, cabling, etc) but to expect it to be completed within 10-12 months - it was demand led so no contract.
