FTTC cabinet at capacity, but GFast availability green?

Hi there

Could anyone please help with advising what connections are available to me at this property please?

I am due to purchase the property, but have been told by BT that the cabinet is at capacity and they cannot provide at FTTC connection. Best they can offer is ADSL.

On the attached image, GFast is showing as Green - does that mean I can connect to Gfast as soon as Open Reach can provide an engineer or is it still a waiting list?

The Green status usually either denotes the quality of the service/line or its availability, so I'd say you should be able to order it. But there's an easy way to test that, just try putting your postcode into the BT or Sky checkers etc. and see what packages it offers.

G.fast is a separate service from FTTC (VDSL2), so any port capacity limits that impact the FTTC service shouldn't impact G.fast.

Thought u can't order G.fast if VDSL is on waiting list as G.fast getting extra speed from the FTTC and G.fast cabinet as a double speed?

I've not heard of that before, so not sure. Port capacity is also a different thing from backhaul capacity.

Thanks Mark. My order for Gfast was accepted and confirmed and I have an installation date for mid-April. The property is about 100m from the cabinet, hoping for good speeds.

G.Fast only utilizes a spare fibre (and some power) from the feed to the VDSL cabinet.
It's a completely separate technology with its own DSLAM and its own ports.
Capacity on the VDSL2 DSLAM shouldn't (won't) affect a G.Fast pod.

G.Fast isn't just doubling VDSL by using 2 ports.
That would be bonded VDSL (which OpenReach don't do).

G.Fast can give much higher or much lower than double your VDSL speeds.

It's confusing using the terms FTTC and G.Fast.
G.Fast is just another form of FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet).
Just as VDSL2 is FTTC.
