Aerial or router / B818 hacking

I have recently started using Three 4G on the Huawei b534. I'm happy with the speeds, getting 20-30Mb DL and 20mb upload. Teams calls much better than my poor fttc broadband.

I have tried a cheapo external aerial and managed to get signal to noise to around 12 dB, but sent it back as the build quality was poor. Currently using 'bunny ears' which make a small difference.

I am thinking of getting either a MikroTik RBLHGR&R11e-4G or a Poynting 4G-XPOL-A0002 to see if I can get better speeds.

ill be fixing whatever I get to a 3m pole above the house to clear the local woods, which block the line of sight to the mast

I'm tending towards the mikrotik option, as the aerial would mean moving the three router into the loft.

Has anyone got experience with the mikrotik device?

Thanks!

I'd recommend getting a Huawei B818 tbh. If you really need the customisation options, do get the microtik. The 818 has a better antenna, works with huactrl and more people know about them on here.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to go for the aerial first. I had a scaffold tower this weekend to do the gutters, so could do a decent test. Got a decent Amazon warehouse deal and 3m pole from screwfix. Really pleased with the results.

Neighbours TV aerial higher... And screened by redwood trees 🤞
Here's hoping it chooses the neighbours aerial or trees then Dpw. ;)

@Dpw in my case the b818 was better (without aerial) than b535 with aerial. It's well worth a shot.

So, do you think it would get back even more speed than the 535 from the same aerial? What gain did you get (with and without modification...)?
There is no "ca" so far where i live in the northern Sweden but very soon.
Maximum DL-Speed with B535 and a poynting X-POL 2-V3 "48 Mbps"
Same antenna with B818 "64 Mbps"
UL 18 Mbps with B535 and 32 with B818.

Care to share how you did the modifications ?

Replaced all 4 internal antennas with pigtails.
You cant use your internal antennas after mod but need to set internal antenna use.

There is someone in UK @ EBAY who also do this mod.
He put all pigtals @ one side but i put them on the back where all other cables are.

Thanks for sharing. Yes i've seen the service, but its a lot of money for that job IMHO. Think I can manage that just fine.

Be careful.... It's not so easy....
To put all connectors at the back you also need to mod inside your modem.
It's much easier to put them like ebayguy/girl do.

@SELBERG can you clarify the type of connectors on the pigtails? They seem super small.
