Huawei B818-263

It was a cashback deal from affordablemobiles. You have to email them copies of your bills at regular intervals and they credit you back. You pay the full amount (£18) a month, but when you get the cash back that brings the "effective price" to £6 a month. The deals come and go regularly, if it's not there today it might be later on.

Just checked. It's still there, under SIM only three.
Got ours for £4 with topcashback :p

B535 has security > remote https access, but no such option is available in B818. Or this is hidden in GUI?

Edit: found something, but it's not the full functionality with whitelist as B535 has.

Security:
$('#https_timed_access').show();

Opens selection:
HTTPS scheduled access

With description:
This will open the configured HTTPS access at the scheduled time, and automatically close it after undefined minutes.

I have been trying to gain remote https access on my B535, but with no success - that option does not exist on my router.
Could you confirm whether this is available on B535-232 specific firmware, or is there a way to access it via developer settings (F12)
Thanks

So try paste into security > elements > console $('#menu_remotehttpsaccess').show();

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to access the additional menu item despite (hopefully) following suggestion - console shows:

$('#menu_remotehttpsaccess').show();
{…}
context: HTMLDocument https://192.168.8.1/html/content.html#firewallswitch
selector: "#menu_remotehttpsaccess"
<prototype>: Object { jquery: "1.12.4", constructor: n(a, b)
, length: 0, … }

I would guess that it relates to the difference in Web UI or Configuration file version I have:

Hardware version WL1B535M
Software version 10.0.1.1(H191SP4C983)
Web UI version WEBUI 10.0.1.1(W2SP3C21)
Configuration file version B535-232-CUST 10.0.1.2(C21)

Any further suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried selectPage('remotehttpsaccess'); in the console instead? You need to be in the right section of admin for these to work usually.

Just tried - it responds with "undefined"
I believe I am in the correct section of admin (security).

It would appear that my config version may not have the option. I have asked Huawei whether it is possible to obtain / import different version. Most likely not, but thought it worth a try

Hey guys, I've been a B353-232 user for about.. 10 months now, as since lockdown started I could no longer use the homes terrible Sky connection as all the people in the house are heavy Netflix users, and it proved difficult to maintain a good connection for work, I kept getting kicked off maybe about every 5 minutes

My experience with Three has been very good - which I find strange! As I have been a forum lurker and also a part of my work is assisting with mobile internet queries, to which a lot of my "which SIM operator do you use" queries are followed up with "Three", working with these queries has definitely taught me what I see echoed a lot on these forums - location is key, and their support will try to signpost as much as possible. Also EE's IPv6 service comes up a lot, but definitely not as much as Three issues

I think my location is good - with the B535-232, I've switched to using it as my main internet so I have a WiFi connection only I use (with the excuse that it's for my work so no-one asks for the key, haha). A speed test now gives an average of 30Mbps download

I've placed an order for the B818 just now, I've been looking at it for a while now. Decided to just go with Amazon as it can be delivered tomorrow, so excited to see if there are any improvements, if not I will initiate a return but really just would like to see if there's any improvement over the B535 by doing a test. Not being Three branded would be a positive too. If all looks good then I'll keep it!

I've been alternating between using a three sim and EE sim for home broadband for the last 6 months in a Huawei b535 router with an external Poynting antenna.

I am convinced that three is constantly throttling us. Speeds can be as fast as 70mbps but then a few hours later it can become really slow around 5-10mbps. Reseting the router usually puts speeds back to normal for a while. I've also read on this forum that people have had success with using a vpn to boost their speeds. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this or knows any way to fix?

The EE sim we have is a lot more reliable around 30-40mbps consistently. But then it is also costing me 5x the price and I prefer to use that sim outside the home e.g on the train to work as the signal is generally better outside of my home with EE.

It won't be throttling, it will be three's sh*t backbone handling your packets awfully. Try AAISP's L2TP service and see if it makes a difference. This also fixed the packet loss problem and websites not loading properly as you are using AAISPs infra instead of three's.

So overall, the speeds are very similar. The B535 I was averaging around 20 - 30 Mbps although I did a speed test just before I took the delivery, and it hit 40 Mbps on speedtest. After switching the SIM and plugging in the B818, went through the set-up process and tested and speedtests seem to be hitting that 50 Mbps point, only just though. It's definitely a marginal increase, but is it worth keeping? Well I probably will (even though I'm supposed to be saving up to move ahem)

Don't get me wrong, I've had very good experiences with the B535 and with the two times I've had issues, the first one was resolved by switching to three.co.uk APN for a few days as 3internet just said no internet connection on all my devices, and the second one seemed to also be a network.blip by Three, where the same thing happened but switching APN did not resolve it - and by the time I switched SIM cards to check if that was the issue, it had started working again

I think bridge mode has some potential (no idea why many carriers and suppliers limit this), and I don't believe I'm in an area which is going to be receiving 5G anytime soon, I'm not in a rural area but not a part of any big cities - just a town on the outskirts, and I'm happy with 4G speeds at the moment so I'll have it running a few days and just see how it goes. Got my work PC and the PS4 plugged in for trying it out 🤭

If you can spare the money it's not a bad idea to have 2 (for backup etc), but as you said, the speeds are only marginally better so ..
Do you know where you are moving? Perhaps you can have 5G in that location, in which case it's better to save towards a 5g router (or phone!) :-D

my B818-263 router got an updated yesterday ! but am not sure what is new in this update. any one know whats new in this update ?.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've been testing AAISPs L2TP service the last week. Unfortunately, it hasn't solved our speed issue. It seems our speedtest gives result of 25mbps unless you reset the router and then for about an hour after the resets the speeds are 60mbps.

Its a shame because three is really affordable and when its working well they have the highest speeds of all providers but I think EE may be a better option for us with steady 30-40mbps download.

buon giorno a tutti posseggo un modem B818-263 del gestore TIM e non mi permette di utilizzare sim vodafone qualcuno mi può aiutare?

Hi @maeco
This is an English speaking forum.

That said, make sure the APN is the correct one. If it is and it still doesn't work, it might be locked on TIM network in which case you'll need to get in touch with them to get it unlocked.

grazie
