Three network 5G roll out making gains

Plus all I was talking about before was mast side of things

Dudley was promised 5G from Three in 2019, since then, nothing. Although their coverage checker has all the streets around me as live( nothing officially announced tho. Do they have to have a minimum coverage of area before they can announce?

I read they're not updating their maps. They showed 5G coverage around here once but it was gone three weeks later, sigh. CS says soon...

Must admit was rather shocked to be woken up by a crane and building works last night to look out in the garden and find a Three 5G mast going in just down the road.

Rather a nice surprise. Just need to wait a week or so for it to go into service now

hopefully that within a couple of hundred meters will increase our current 60mbps from a 4G tower 2km away

Doesn’t look to have MaMIMO on it, not really like three that. Maybe they will install it at a later date or just use 8T8R 5G instead.

You might want to temper your hopes a little - @Gandi69 had a similar mast go up late 2020 (also without the 5G antennas) and it's still not live yet - that one seemingly to not yet have got its backhaul with one.network appearing to show that might be planned for July. I'm not saying yours will be the same, but it might be longer than a week!

The site it’s located at has been told switch on it within 2 weeks so hopefully they have everything in place

Well I am hoping there will be some gains, I currently get a good 4G service from a Tower about 2km away but its rapidly losing line of sight behind an expanding tree line,

Still Gives Min 50Mbps Down upto 85Mbps using a Huawei 715

Have ordered a H112-372 to try the new 5G tower but assume that may also give an increase on the 4G tower as its Cat19 instead of Cat9

Will see how it goes, Pity the 5G Mast is at end of the house rather than straight on as shown in picture

Current Speeds on 4G Which are stable and never go below 50mbps

Not entirely sure that's a 5G antenna to be honest. There should be smaller square antennas at the top ? Like this

Then again, maybe it is ? But the ones they're installing around my area all look like this second image, with two different sets of antenna on the top.

Depending on the antenna orientations in the masts it might be better if you happen to be off-axis from your current cell but and new mast might be more direct center of the cell... Even if the angle into your window is shallow.

Its odd it does look like its missing a section from the top compared to another 5G site a couple of miles away, location where it is insist that its 5G. Also a lot more boxes than the other 4G sites around here..

Yeah it does kinda look like it's missing some antenna at the top. If you can find the planning permission on the local authority website that should answer if it is or isn't but yeah that cabinet setup looks like it should be 5G.

On our local council website you can do a "simple" search and put "5G" in the box and it usually pops up with all the (mostly denied) applications.

Closer look at top looks like its wired for upper expansion and they are just tied off

@dabigm yours in an MBNL (EE/Three) shared 3/4/5G site, whereas @Stageshoot is a Three only (unilateral) site, hence half the number of antennas (and might be 4G and 5G only)

Edit: I'm assuming they will eventually put 5G antennas on the top.

That would explain a lot, There is already a huge multi network tower just across the road from this one O2, EE, Voda all on it but not 3, so this is probably why 3 went stand alone there, they have gastly coverage here

And the insult is the current local 5G mast drops out at the end of our road!

Looks like they're putting it in exactly the right place then

As ever "it depends".

In a straight maxed out configuration with stand alone 5G in ideal signal conditions, theoretically, yes it will.
For your specific location and conditions probably, though don't forget 5G is NSA and it needs a 4G bearer too, it'll aggregate the 4G+5G together so the 5G throughput will be on top of whatever 4G the new site will give you, so comparing 5G vs 4G is impossible until stand alone comes along.
