Which gfast providers supply separate modem

Hi am with virgin at the moment and fed up with variable quality especially for kids gaming. I can get gfast but will use my own router. Which providers either supply a separate modem or have modem mode? I think BT and Talk Talk provide a combi modem and router, am not clear on Shell or EE?

If anyone can confirm would be a great help deciding.

BT, Sky and TalkTalk all supply models with a combined router/modem, as you say. I suspect if you want just the G.fast modem from Openreach then you may need to pick from one of the smaller providers (might be worth asking IDNET and Zen first). One issue here is that a lot of ISPs are now starting to shun G.fast in favour of Openreach's FTTP rollout, so it's harder to get the info. on that side of things without asking first.

UnchainedISP will offer openreach modem (gfast) but you must have your own wireless router as unchainedisp g.fast is using TalkTalk Business regrade business as you will get free static ip address but the line will be emergency calls only with 12 month contract. My service will go LIVE tomorrow with G.fast 160/30 with UnchainedISP. Engineer coming tomorrow to install G.fast socket, come with Openreach G.fast Modem with my own TP Link wifi router VR2600.

Stroll down the page for G.fast 160/30 or 330/50

Thanks - have a couple of questions if that's OK :-

- they (and other smaller suppliers) look a bit expensive so what made you pick them eg versus talk talk or BT? Did you want or need a static IP?

- how does the phone line work - do you have inbound calls, but outbound only 999 outbound?

The alternative for me would be to go with a bigger and cheaper supplier but buy a DrayTek gfast modem which would probably be cheaper over the contract period, though either would be less than I'm paying VM now as I'm on full price whilst looking at gfast options

Got gfast installed this morning by Openreach. 160/30 was spot on. Speed throughput 151/28 all day today. (that's after overheads and ip profile)

I pick UnchainedISP because I don't want G.fast for 2 years contract, just want 12 month contract and it provide me static ip address. Free installation setup fee, free openreach gfast modem.

The phone was switched over no problem as anyone can call inbound with same telephone number but u only allow outbound 999 emergency calls.

£49.99 a month not bad for 1 year.

Looks good - having looked across all the gfast options it looks like either talk talk at £40 per month for £18 months plus approx £105 for a draytek gfast modem with possible installation hassles over not using the talk talk router, or unchained at £56.99 for 12 months that includes gfast modem

Anyone any experience of talk talk installation and using own router. They do publish their connection settings for use with own router

I would warn you over UnchainedISP 330/50 at £56.99 for 12 month because you waren't to know the line quality and length. You are better off start with 160/30 at £49.99 and let the Openreach engineer to test your socket what the data max speed are if it well over 330 down and well over 50 up then you can ask UnchainedISP to upgrade later at anytime but the contract will start at 12 month. But, if you start off with 330/50 and engineer test kit say below 210/29 like mine then you can't downgrade to 160/30 for next 12 month because of the contract locked between yourself and the ISP to TalkTalkBusiness backhual. That's why it much easier way start off 160/30 see how it go first.

My BTw checker say estimate download of 282/44 to 203/21 but engineer test kit say it actually 210/29 and that's mean 330/50 would be pointless for extra 50Meg at 210/29 for £56.99 per month so lucky I did pick 160/30 as a sweet spot on and save money.

Don't forget TalkTalk Retail are different to TalkTalk Business. I didn't go for TalkTalk Retail because the contract is too long 18 month plus you have to pay for draytek gfast modem £105.

I'm with Zen and I have a separate modem. I use my own router although Zen supply a Fritz router.

fat jez - nice speed! I understand BTw use Bras IP Profile from 330 that reduced to 301. Same as mine 160 reduced to 151 which it isn't that bad at all.

Mine is below 160/30

The latency was fine all day and overnight with 12ms ping. I used to be with VM back but don't like it at all. Very unreliable cable.

I have no problem with Plusnet FTTC 80/20 always the same speed at 74/19 for the last 7 years before switch over to G.fast 160/30 with UnchainedISP because Plusnet do not offer any G.fast product.

never had any issues with latency, always seems pretty low. My ping on Speedtest is 14ms.
You very lucky as you must be within 100m from the cabinet! Easy to get 330/50 but sadly Openreach gfast is very large overheads and profile to leave u just 302 instead of 330. (28Meg taken away)

My gfast made change overnight and lower ping now.

170m I think the engineer said when he did the install. As a rule of thumb, I allow about 10% for overheads, which is probably about right for my line.

BTw Checker has updated say my line can do 224/30 on G.fast (still on G.fast 160/30 cos still happy with 160/30.
