A 3 Pole of Wonder

AFAIK MaMIMO doesn't deliver greater speeds (to a single device) rather it delivers more capacity across more connected devices. In that, with more devices connected to a given antenna the total combined throughput achieved could/should be higher versus a non-MaMIMO antenna.
However it could be argued that, through beam-forming capability of MaMIMO, the speed achieved by a single device in a given location might be higher than what was possible from a non-beam-forming antenna.
 
Road closure is now gone and the mast looks complete but I couldn’t hear much activity inside it (over the engine of the car but then again I don’t know how loud they are). Either way it’s not kicking out a signal so I don’t think it connected up properly yet, looks like more work for open reach to do.
 
I might add that Three choosing to use MaMIMO for 5G instead of 8T8R is a good move as it achieves higher speeds. (Stares at EE who chose 8T8R for most of their installations). At least they've recognized the mistakes they made with their 4G and are working to bring back the old three, the best 3G network back in the day.
It still is the best 3G, get around 25mbps all day long here 😅

Yep, I’ve had better luck with 3G in some with 4G from time to time.

Oh for sure. Mine connects to 3G a lot lately whilst I’m in the house but the coverage checker does say there is work happening nearby.

I noticed that another part of town has 5G active but isn’t visible on the website, so maybe they’re doing full rollouts across the city causing the forced 3G connectivity.

Tbh I’ve noticed that my phone has started dropping to H+ more than it used to but thats ok because H+ is an actually usable speed and they even class it as 4G in America.

Is this why on LTE when your downloading any file of a decent size the rest of your TV's, Laptops, Consoles fail to have any speed at all, where as if you were on say Virgin 100Mbps regardless of number of items connected you'd still get a share of bandwidth across all your devices? (Or is it more a latency increasing as you are downloading impact specifically on LTE networks?)

The extra capacity could lead to extra speed though too, we've seen how slow it can get on their 4G in some areas
 
I think it really depends on the load.
On an unloaded cell, whether it's anywhere between 2*2 or all the way up to MaMIMO, if you only have a device that can do 2x2 you're unlikely* to get better speeds. However in a loaded situation MaMIMO will provide a higher average speed per device than lesser MIMO versions, due to the increased capacity (can serve more devices simultaneously).

*unlikely, assuming that the only thing different is the antenna - usually for a site upgrade going to MaMIMO that upgrade will swap pretty much everything so can't usually compare before and after cleanly. Also as mentioned above, MaMIMO's (vertical) beam forming could help speeds for devices that would be outside of the natural beam coverage of a non-MaMIMO antenna.
 
BT works have disappeared from one.network for the new mast where I am. I can only assume that they completed whatever it is they needed to do and are now going to have to wait for EE/3 contractors to come back to out to actually switch it on?
 
I'm not actually sure how long it usually takes from infrastructure completion (assuming it actually is) to then be commissioned and lit up for public use. I'd guess not all that long, maybe days/couple of weeks perhaps...

id not imagine it to be too long myself, they will want it earning its keep so to speak. Looking at the three roll out around my area here I suspect this will be the first one to go live, the others have not gone live yet - they are yet to have fibre connected to them or are not even built yet
 
Weird, that's just the calculated location but cellmapper does have more cells detected than just those 2 you've contributed today so not sure why it's put it there!

Edit - ah I see, the other cells are just small 'lines' alone Penn Road to the south, so the calculation based on your new data (which is an actual area) has skewed that location calculation

our local pole went up over 6 weeks ago they have been back a couple of times to dig up and lay infrastructure. But still no life on it yet

luckily getting decent signal from another pole that is just out of range according to Three. But would like to see this local one turned on to help with upload speed and allow me to put the router in a more convenient place
 
Would they ever use an old site where a mast used to be?

This used to be an Orange site next to Kilwinning station.

The fence has never been removed and nothing has changed since the mast was removed about 7 years ago.

Be good if they did because it's very near me.

Am I being selfish? Probably. :giggle:

I feel as if I should be telling 3 that the site is there, all ready for them.:D

I’m definitely not holding my breath for any life in it just yet, the mast itself was approved April 2020, constructed in December 2020 and the only real signs of any “work” on it was done just last week. There’s another local one to me that was put up in maybe October/November 2020 and that’s still not connected either even though it looks “finished”.It probably explains why these roll outs take so long, there must be serious delays (as well as lockdowns) in jumping all though the hoops both legally and technologically
