EE vs Three 5G latency

It looks like EE either has some network problems or some weird prioritisation policies, cause Smokeping doesn't like it one bit.

Worth pointing out that otherwise EE is fully usable, no issues with ssh or zoom.

Check the graph attached, at 10:00 I switched it to Three 5G, much smoother.

Tbh I never saw a ping of under 55ms whilst on three, mostly it was in the 80-90ms range throughout my entire time with them.

That's strange, my ping (at my house at least) never goes above 60ms. I believe you get higher pings on masts that use microwave backhaul though so this might be the case.

Darn.. mw uplink might explain this then.
It's weird cause the mast is otherwise on a rooftop and fibre accessible you'd think.

The Three signal is coming from elsewhere, massive difference in rsrp (worse) etc

Well Virgin runs down the pavement 50ft from the mast, so when they get around to unbundling in the next few months, who knows what the future holds for mast sites!

Not necessarily, depends how much capacity they're paying for (though that's the same with fibre too) - you can get, for example 10Gbps MW links running at 70Ghz...
But then theres the backhaul at the other site that's being shared with potentially some other masts and soon you have multiple villages served by one fibre link......

Guess that’s why Three partnered with CityFibre after EE invalided itself with BT buyout, MBNL because less restrictive to Three due to conflicts of interest.

When Voda threw its London city sharing out the window o2 & Three partnership employed CityFibre & Scottish Southern Electricity national ring, the Virgin merger with o2 could serve Three well if expanded into other areas Vodafone bail on o2.

As it stands Three has the best high speed spectrum block allocation, (due to BT buying EE - anti monopoly) rights to use MBNL sites and build its own base stations and partner with o2/anyone else.

It has access to Virgin/CityFibre/SSE Telecom & BT backhaul pipes. We are merely seeing the beginning of Three 5G rollout with HUAWEI/CoVID delays.

Whilst Voda/EE raid BT Openreach broadband for profits o2 & Three are going 5G, Virgin merger gives o2 backhaul, Three is spoilt for choice so microwave/700MHz will give remote landmass coverage but that’s infill not populated landma$$. Vodafone is banking on remote high speed spectrum to rural but its (falling to bits C&W/Bulldog) national ring isn’t that great so between many sites & ring will cost Vodafone a lot of cash for no 700MHz & rural high speed delivery

BT & Vodafone the once dominant are playing a very poor game, I mean Vodafone will need more B20 base stations than the other networks with 700MHz.

BT saving grace is it’s National ring because it’s spectrum may be good for carrier aggregation but we are years off below mid range all having 4x4, full QAM, & more years where entry mobiles will have QAM/CA as standard, we still haven’t got VoLTE/VoWiFi as standard. So BeeT really haven’t planned well.

Three & o2 planning has been spectacular by comparison.

Roll on Stand Alone 5G & nation wide Mimo on Three, the same way Three made VoLTE on all 4G bands.

Three has its hands in all the major backhaul baskets, microwave won’t play that great a part of Three 5G, you don’t buy 100MHz high speed spectrum band to rough it down to 70MHz MW.

The Futures bright the futures Three 5G ;)

Now hurry up Hutch hey my delayed 5G roll out actioned haha :)
