A 3 Pole of Wonder

Yeah, the Three 5G mast in my town (carries EE 4G as well) is marked MBNL, performance is quite bad compared to other areas ive tested.
I find EE to be the problem here. When thEEy email/text base station work Three really slows down when it’s complete.

EE is 5G here Three isn’t (backhaul upgrades pending), I won’t touch EE with a barge pole their care staff are sales staff they give no hoots about problems other than selling you a upgrade that will apparently resolve the problem you’ve replicated on numerous devices, EyEroll. Couldn’t run a copper broadband network let alone wireless!

Thankful the old industrial chimney base station is shared by all 4, Lebara 5G 200Megs cap for now awaiting Three 5G. £35 to Voda 5G or £12.50 to Leb was a no brainier!

o2 was rather good aswell. EE wanted another £40 a month to go 5G on sim only and they wanted a 18m term (lol, just LOL), roll on Three 5G the big boys 5G network.

If Three ain’t live in Nov I’ll be off back to o2 5G £25pm.

EE really had the audacity to ask me if my three 100GB £7 plan had 5G..... you really think your going to win me over that way EE when your 5G is crap anyway🤔........

Of course it has bloody 5G!

On the mast in question, Three is the only one with 4G+ or 5G and both seem to max out at 200mbps even with 100Mhz on the 5G side, EE only have their band 3 20Mhz running, I wish it reached my part of town.

In this area the overpriced EE are no better than Three with single carrier 4G (Three beat them in one half of town) and Vodafone blow them out of the water, more than twice the speed.

Yeah welcome to a British Gov department, almost 40 years on its as retarded as most public sector bodies still are. And it’s still begging for taxpayers cash ‘grants’.

Be thankful your in a town then, Vodafone long distance 4/5G coverage on 700MHz is non existent for the foreseeable future for the many, where every other network will have it.

Not fussed about 700Mhz, Vodafone have Band 20,1 deployed on 2 out of the 5 masts in the area and i see speeds between 30 and 120, I'm detecting a band 7 signal this week via cellmapper but I cannot connect to it even though it's a strong signal.

Sounds like it’s one of the very saturated areas of Three where it’s better to offer 5G with reduced backhaul pipes and mino wouldn’t/didn’t make a difference, move people to 5G as the 4G is way oversaturated helps stop passing people to further away slowBand 20.

Problem with that scenario is BT would rather cut off their nose than help Three with its 100MHz 5G that makes them look like the amateurs they are, no matter what EE do they can’t beat Three 5G at high speeds, now if it was rural/700MHz then BT would be backhauling that MBNL pipe ASAP, fact is in that situ they make money off carrying Three data to the nearest Three partner hop. Without all the shame if not having the best high speed 5G spectrum in the UK.

One of the 2 closer masts to me has become very saturated for 3, sadly the one my 4G router latches onto, they have told me a upgrade is due on the 10th October, the site is also MBNL. The other seems to be a 3 only site with bands 3,20, quite good performance.

Yeah sadly though lack of 700MHz will effect Vodafone, it will be the worst landmass & indoor coverage of all networks on 4/5G and building more base stations to cover in them holes isn’t cheap.

I still reckon Vodafone UK is going to be sold off, move HO to EU where’s most it’s assets are and still make rental revenue out owning the Cornerstone & other base stations it folded into its Germany subsidiary Vantage Towers.

Why spend money on 700MHz when you’ve no interest in keeping your long term loss making Flagship going outside your main operations - EU.

Frankly them 700MHz holes are probably best filled by someone else who can run Voda U.K. at a good profit.

Voda U.K. served Voda Global well, the cash cow paid for a lot of expansion outside the U.K. why stay making nothing & being taxed for bringing your EU income into the U.K.

I expect a rebrand ASAP as a sale is done.

For me in Scotland being coastal mass population settlements a lack of 700MHz versus three other networks makes Vodafone a no go really, well until low frequency 6G spectrum auction opens up like T-Mobile USA 600MHz Band 71 but that possibility is a near decade off.

I think Vodafone can just use there 900Mhz which the others do not have, more and more places are seeing 4G in L09 from Vodafone and they can always refarm some of that or band 20 for long reach 5G.

Yeah Three are also where possible are dumping BT back to a CityFibre/SSE/Virgin partner hop, they really are routing BT out, putting its MBNL shared sites up for £3.5 BILLION to (Spanish) Cellnex U.K. - all the other EU Three‘s have done so already but the gov CMA got it under investigation as Arqiva and Three U.K. Cellnex May make a monopoly.

Where possible anyone but BT are wanted for backhaul, unfortunately there are places that isn’t financially feasible, or planning is impossible. But then again is it a Three pipe only even if it’s a MBNL site!??.

Good news it’s coming though and ASAP too!

200MHz a difference, that’s some solo Voda non Cornerstone build out to even match their Cornerstone partner o2!

800/900MHz off the same Cornerstone o2 sites with their 700MHz is not a National network, it like EEs 1800 & Threes 1800 Band 3 during 2010’s - a massive difference.

Vodafone landmass coverage will be the poorest in the U.K. in a few years. Self harm. If they don’t care and have placed physical assets in a separate EU company - Vantage - it’s clear their long term game, bye bye U.K.

Frankly we might see Orange or T-Mobile return to the U.K., Vodafone’s spectrum holdings are better than what either were previously. It’s all to play for, Voda UK is dead, it’s a EU company Vodafone Global, as is its newest Vantage Towers.

200Mhz is unlikely to make much difference in coverage, Vodafone know what they are doing when deciding what spectrum to bid for and I highly doubt they will have any less coverage than the others.

They do now, as stated, o2 it’s base station site partner for most of the U.K. will have better reaching coverage on 700MHz 4/5G.

You think o2 won’t use 700MHz 4G to trump Voda from the same Vodafone 800MHz 4/5G base station site, of course they will, coverage is king, data speeds come second fiddle to actually being able to use your mobile phone as a phone & text messaging.

The mobile internet’s great but if you have no signal indoors or in the wide open/landmass versus Three/EE/o2 then customer numbers will suffer in time as 700MHz is rolled out, & let’s face it the new high and load speed spectrums are being rolled out pronto, esp due to covid.

Voda Global has little interest in Voda U.K. or it would have invested in 4/5G landmass coverage, it’s nowt more than the original Vodafone Group founding company, a flag waver.

Never mind perhaps it’s BT Wholesale agreement will mean you can auto connect to a home broadbands customers Vodafone Wi-fi point where it has no 700MHz coverage so you can call & text via VoWiFi, VodaFON, lol.

Well the dismal 20 years of ‘customer care’ had to catch up with the Boardroom at some point, seems 2021 was that year.

Sad to see Vodafone UK demise.

Voda Global is on its ball though,
Vodafone Spain is also laying off 12% of its staff by Nov. It’s the forth lay off round in 8 years at Voda ES.

There is hardly any differance in reach between the two bands as stated, i dont see what you have against Vodafone but they are certainly not at a disadvantage by not having a bit of 700Mhz spectrum lol.

They certainly were no slouch when I tried them in Irvine last month.
I was quite gobsmacked to be honest.o_O

Yeah, they are the fastest by far in my area of town, i think the max i have seen here is about 130megabit, not far from Threes poor performing 5G tower on the other side of town that maxes at 200 or so!
I wanted to take it home with me, but couldn't work out how to do it.
Guess I'll have to stick with my 30 for now till my pole of wonder is ready Zathan.
