New Smarty sim - strange behaviour

Got a Smarty sim today £4/12GB for three months as a stop gap.

I can only connect to new CK Hutchison base stations, none of my local EE shares MBNL base stations will allow a connection. This new CKH site went live last week a mile away.

Auto network/manual makes zero difference, 1800MHz on the one new CKH base station transmitter is all I get at home.

Now I know the whole o2 ex Cornerstone/Three sharing is up in the air due to Cellnex sell off which in itself is being investigated by Gov Competition Mergers Authority but is anyone else on Smarty having issues connecting to 3 MBNL shared base stations?.

Have new smarty sims been provisioned wrong or correct ?

Anyone else got a new Smarty sim recently?.

Ok calling my Smarty sim with VoLTE off pushes it to B20 800MHz then it passes to B1 3G.

Cell mapper is reporting the same base station.

I’ve not tried making a call on my smarty sim but it does spend a lot of time on 3G lately, same goes for Three though so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I will give it a go tomorrow and see what’s occurring, is there nothing on the Three status checker in your area? Usually the “we are busy upgrade our network” spiel they live so heavily on, yet to see any improvement though.

Edit: works fine for VoLTE when calling on smarty. Maybe it’s just the mast having issues if neither are connecting.

Was gonna try a few things but I’ve just spent three hours setting up a new iPad with a oldie that’s never used iOS, I’m exhausted!

there is nothing reported in my area - exactly my problem no MBNL access lol

That’s a strange set up, sometimes the EE site can be quicker updating any issues so maybe also check there.

Was going to come post that haha.

I’ve just looked at Moto G50, I’ve been on the same CKH base station since 8.29pm last night.

I’m defo not getting any MBNL access at all, just Band 3 1800 off the new CKH base station.

In better Three news (& Smarty testing incoming!) this order from last night just arrived, no emails or texts of order status... just arrived out of the blue

Wow, no idea what EE have done with the MBNL 5G install but Three has gone to crap. 35megs av is now <15 in a CPE Pro 2.

No idea if Pro is connecting to MBNL or same CKH site

Ok no 5G, LTE 4G Mimo etc etc should be ok...

5Ghz Wi-fi, speedies: bottom 2 lines, Lebara (OPPO 5G hotspot), top two lines are Smarty sim in CPE Pro 2 to iphone Mini 5GHz, everything in between is the Three Broadband sim/Pro 2/5GHz Wi-fi to iPhone Mini.

Prior to EE 5G launch Three did not have these 4G speed issues.

ThrEE nEEteork total caput, that’s worse than 3G ever was.

Guess a live chat return is in order.

Now 3 has decided the Smarty/Moto G50 isn’t allowed 4G access??

Mind you it’s performed better than 4G in most instances 🤣

This is shocking, EE 5G goes live and Three 3/4G goes to pot. No wonder they want out MBNL for £3.5Billion to build their own CKH 5G 100MHz base station transmitters network.

No it’s almost the same on my notebook in the same room/position.

Tree had losts it’s roots. I was Three Mimo 4x4 in a HUAWEI LTE router until 5G launched on O2 a year ago, 30-35meg average & rare lows of 25meg.

5G mobile in smaller size isn’t exactly a great choice, I don’t need a phone hitting my manbits! So it was the only choice iPhone Mini, if I need a larger screen on the move I’ve a OPPO 5G & Acer Windows 10” tablet/netbook combo

I’m really shocked since EE went live it’s partner has gone to the wall, no explaining that CKH only on the G50, who knows.

iOS really slows down Qualcomm X55 to conserve battery life. Mixx 3 5G Q51 performs much better than Mini X55.

Mediatek 5G performs much better than Qualcomm.

Oh i forgot last night, apart from the CKH anomaly, Smarty sim isn’t allowing carrier aggregation. Only the pass for Band 20 VoLTE handoff to B1 3G.

Smarty is find 8 cells on Cellmapper but only connecting to one CKH base station. I’m going to VoLTE on and call myself & see what happens.

VoLTE onstays on Band 3 as per Three activating VoLTE on all 4G bands.

No carrier aggregation, no MBNL connection on Smarty.

Will test Three Broadband in Moto G50 sim later after food.

Smarty sims in both my parents iPhone SE 2020s that were activated a month or two back are connecting fine

Three have ditched carrier agrigation in my area when band 3 is the primary band, 20 primary will ca with 3 though, nothing to do with smarty or MBNL

Interesting...

I’ve a MBNL base/transmitter 200 metres away I usually connect to B20,3 (4G only mode), but I’m connecting only to a CKH base transmitter a mile away north east through a landmass that’s a lot higher than me or the transmitter on only B3, so if CA has been switched off here and MBNL access is gone (??) no wonder I’m having such speed issues!

Can’t they just switch the 5G on haha, 200Mbps is fine if the backhaul pipe isn’t great, it’s gonna be a lot better than 4G saturated like a Kardashian.

Interesting info regards CA, thanks!

Cellmapper is showing the CKH base only, but for a moment another flashed up as UNKNOWN... I wonder if that’s the MBNL or the Network Rail GSM-R hhmmmmm...
