Advice needed: Three has pulled 5G broadband from my postcode?

On infamous website grooves-inc.co.uk raconteur "John F" gave the router one star saying

"Do not buy this router if you expect 5G. You are rolling the dice if you do. I bought this with the intent to connect to my Telco providers 5G. Huawei has neglected to add a significant capability, the ability to choose which connection you want the router to default to. This means if you have a 4G and a 5G signal broadcast within range of this router, the router will auto connect to the strongest signal. In most cases the 4G signal is stronger because 5G it is still being rolled out. In my case the 5G antenna was 1500m away and the 4G antenna was 1300m away. I have written and talked to Huawei and there is no planned release for updating the router firmware with this essential capability. So if you buy this, you may get lucky if your 5G antenna is closer than your 4G antenna, but the odds are not in your favour and this is a very expensive router. Good luck!""

Is this true? My CPE 1 rarely dropped to 5G so I don't see why the CPE 2 would unless something has changed.
I love my CPE Pro 2, had it for a long time now and its been rock solid, unfortunately I can't vouch for 5G as I'm still waiting on three building their new monopole where I am aveitch.

Any leads on where to buy one (amazon turning up one result for 450 pounds).
New ones seem to be quite scarce at the moment, mine was £399 when I got it on Amazon.

Not sure who else has them new just now to be honest.

A few on ebay, but probably three supplied and hence locked to three which isn't ideal if you want to experiment with other networks, and no bridge mode either of course.

Best of luck getting one.

This makes sense. I didn't realise that was what it was (the Relish connection).

Aye neither did Three, that’s why the CEO & CTO and others gor binned by Three HK/CK Hutchison head office, they took the HK loan and completely messed up the (non) integration, what should have been Three UKs National 5G launch was a white label job of plastering Three over Relish,

If you go to Three Broadband website it’s riddled with problems & incorrect info still as it’s now just been used as part of Three.co.uk address checker & order processing. The actual address checker on some parts of the TBB site are still related to the Relish address checker.

It’s till quite a mess if you use the TBB Website than .co.uk

Still a lot of long term amateur of Three UK staff to root out the company. I guess the new head office site is easier for the board management to keep a eye on staff than their old rented office since the new one is purpose built.

It's crazy that open reach has been so incompetent that this is by far the better option.

I wonder what our infrastructure would look like if we took all the money from HS2 and put it into fiberoptic cable.

Prob exactly the same, slow speed “fibre“ and FTTP for the fortunate, just a duplication of the status quo.

It would be cheaper to compulsory buy land to make interchanges & intersections and put one side of the East & West Coast lines on HS2, sure it would be slightly slower but more much more cost effective, buy BT & do fibre ASAP, get then prisoners digging up the trenches for a wage/savings to set up a home.

U.K. Gov like the Establishment is all pomp & pageantry, spend big because it’s looks good internationally, look like we are still a rich empire, screw the taxpayers money/thoughts, propaganda everytime, then they’ve got the cheek to charge for iplayer for even people who don’t have full Freeview or broadband, Maggie was slightly right, without the mobile networks free enterprise a lot of people wouldn’t have decent internet access speed.

If there is one thing the Brit Gov ain’t never been good at its utilising assets, or cost effectively.

Thank the gods for Three 100MHz incoming, for many it will be the best they will see in the next decade no matter how much smaller fibre companies are expanding we are decades behind on broadband by any means of wire delivery.

I have a Huawei CPE Pro 1 and three 5G unlimited and this has worked great for the past year.
I was, however, looking forward to upgrading to a CPE Pro 2 when my contract was up (which it now is).

I use an Eero Pro and have been frustrated by my inability to put the router in Bridge mode which, I believe, the Pro 2 fixes.

When Three called me for another contract it transpired that they now only offer 4G in my neighbourhood (North London) so, despite my modem still getting 5G and me still being on a 5G plan (monthly now) I can't get another contract with them without them sending me a 4G router and being on a 4G plan.

According to them, I'd still be able to use the SIM card which would give me access to 5G but I'm skeptical since, if I sign a 4G contract, I think they'd be within their rights to just cancel that sim and send me a 4G one or just limit my account to 4G; I don't know how it works; there still seems to be some perceived arcane power within the SIM card that the industry has yet to wake up from.

I just checked and, sometime between when I spoke to three a few months ago and today they've actually stopped offering even 4G broadband in my area. The website says "we're on our way" and tries to sell me a MIFI. What on earth is going on?
Are they stopping home broadband altogether?

I can't get any answers out of three. I wondered whether anyone else has had this happen to them. The 5g antennas are still up. I'm getting 5G. But they won't admit it's there or that I'm using it.

I was considering just buying a CPE Pro 2 second hand but they're very expensive. Are there any other options I should consider that would work with a 3 sim? I wouldn't want to do invest in one if I were going to be forced to move to another provider who'd send me a modem for free.

A small part of me, btw, believes that I'm to blame with downloading whopping 50GB torrents etc etc and they're just like "we need to leave the area. We can't cope with this. Why is he downloading all of The Sopranos in 4k?"
Why dont you use another post code that has 5G broadband say you use it there for work reasons and want it delivered at your home address or do it online change the delivery address which now solves your issue

Does anyone know of any legit places to buy one? Having trouble on eBay because they all believe they understand unlocked but not "not modded with firmware from the carriers"

I did exactly this!!

Hey the SSID on this guy is a bit unclear. Does anyone know whether I can just name the 2.4 and 5 the same ? I believe my CPE Pro 1 had a button that said combine them. Here, I don't quite know what's going on.

Hi aveitch, if you have 5 GHz preferred turned on you just get the one SSID, if it's turned off you can have 2 different SSID's one for 2.4GHz and one for 5.0GHz

Preferred option will always try and connect your devices to 5.0GHz if your devices support it.

that's what I thought but I have it turned on and I'm still getting two SSIDs.
Perhaps you do still get 2 SSID's, probably not remembering correctly, I'll try mine now and pop back shortly.

thanks. I'm wondering whether I should name them the same.

On my CPE 1 it definitely worked the way you say but on this one, no.
Yes you're correct, still have 2 SSID's.

I just found out why I keep preffered turned off, a few of my devices refuse to connect in preferred mode.

Switched it off and they all connected again.

Not sure you'll be allowed the same names though aveitch.

But, actually, what network do I tell devices to connect to?
Do I have to work out whether they're 5 or 2.1 devices? I'm confused. I have two ssids and I don't know what to tell my devices.

And what does the preferred do when it's a separate SSID?
Best having 2 seperate ssid's aveitch, none of my smart plugs will connect to 5GHz and some older devices too.

Just include 2.4 and 5.0 in their names so you know which is which.

Try and connect your devices to 5 first, if they dont connect use 2.4.
