Unstable portable wifi connection.

Hi everyone,

Firstly I'm almost computer illiterate so please bare with me

I live in a rural part of Ghana, Africa where broadband internet is not available. I currently teach online and require a very stable connection but doesn't have to be fast. I have an Android phone using mtn service provider. The internet connection on my phone is fast and reliable ive never had an issue. But if I use it as a hotspot for my laptop the phone and laptop internet becomes unstable running well for a minute and the nothing, just up and down. I bought a mobile wifi/mifi device and it's even worse when my phone or laptop is connected to it.

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated, I also have access to buy a router or USB dongle modem.

Thanks

What phone are you using?

Hi, welcome!

Sounds like a problem with your network rather than your equipment.
Does your mobile network allow you to tether? (some don't)You could try USB tethering, if you let us know which phone it is we could probably find you the instructions to do it.

It's an infinix hot 10 lite and I also have a Google pixel 2 xl, I'm not sure what u mean by tethering but I'm assuming a cable that connects from my phone to laptop?

So I just tethered my phone to the laptop, it was way better but still cut out ever few minutes for about 2 to 10 seconds, it's good for a backup but too unreliable for my needs. Is the next step a router or can someone suggest what my best option is?
