Business FTTPoD

I use them initially for a ball park figure. Then I contact the ones Im interested in directly. Talk Talk have a matching quote for £236 for 100/100 too.
You will find going directly to the major providers will not necessarily get you anywhere near the best deal much of the time. Its counter intuitive, but that's the way it works.

If you are serious about it you are better off approaching several indy aggregators / resellers that can offer you options from tail circuit providers including VM, Openreach etc.

If you are in a major town or city (especially with VM nearby) you will likely have existing fibre and access nodes nearby that can be leveraged.

If I don't get anywhere with Cerberus for the FTTPoD, then I think i'll take up talk talk on the 100/100 offer. I could then back it up with a cheap virgin media contract (you can get them for about £25-30 for 100mbit if you look around for deals)

Hiya

I did. Clive actually responded, put me in touch with a Russell Milsom who is technical escalations manager in the chief engineers office. We spoke twice, good chap, but he said basically im not getting FTTP due to G.Fast and that it's ok for most people. No plans for me, or anyone else in the G.Fast postcodes near me direct from Openreach.
That's disgrace! Sound like Openreach will NEVER bring FTTP to my property now because of my G.fast connected to the G.fast cabinet sync at 241/37. I was hoping for FTTP 330/50 so I don't have to worry too much over bloody DLM on G.fast. I hate DLM. :(

I wish Openreach NEVER rolled out G.fast in all location in the first place (very bad move) and it will declined any future FTTP.

Oh good grief I should have recognised the patter.

New dog, old tricks eh Max? 🤣

For those who don't realise: this is "AdslMax", the same guy who says he doesn't need any high speeds and therefore is switching from G.Fast to VDSL at the first opportunity because it's cheaper. And the same guy who complains that he gets faster speed on his G.Fast line than the BT Broadband Checker predicts.

Max: you will get FTTP eventually, because everybody will.

Please consider yourself lucky that until FTTP arrives, you will get a rock-solid 80/20 from FTTC. There are plenty of people who would be very happy if they could get 8Mbps, let alone 80.

Openreach only rolling out FTTP for those who only got ADSL2 and FTTC for now. These peoples who got G.fast will not getting any FTTP for a very long time probably at the back end of the queue.

Got a reply from Cerberus. They wont give an estimate and instead want me to pay for the full survey. Guess i'm going to bite the bullet and pay the £250+VAT for it.

If I were in your position, I'd look at load balancing multiple 80Mb lines with a Pfsense box .

Pretty stupid of them to ask you to pay up £300 inc VAT for full survey is a really cheeky from them.

Good luck for your full survery quote hope it will be lots cheapest not £6k to £12k.

Yeah but to be fair the desk survey is worthless. I've signed the contact, they didn't actually want me to pay the money today. Waiting game now.

lol you made me laughed over your bottom signature - Left out of OR FTTP because "G.Fast is good enough for most people".

Well, I have to agree with this as well as G.fast with DLM are horrible!

Frustration. I'm sure G.Fast is great, if you live within stones throwing distance of your green cabinet. They should never have offered it on my street because of the length to the cab. And now we're being left out due to a failed business decision by OR.

I suppose I should just be grateful that I'm not on 2mbit DSL.

Contrary to popular opinion, you actually instruct your ISP and Openreach to go ahead with the install, of which a full survey is the first stage.

Thankfully Openreach will let the end user cancel the order once the confirmed build costs are known but the survey fee of £250 ex vat is payable.

Well here's an interesting development.

Timeline:

May 2021, Openreach starts to deploy FTTP in my town.
Oct 2021, Openreach more or less finishes the deployment, most homes can order it, I discover I can't.
Dec 2021, I speak to Openreach including their CEO and CTO. I'm told, directly from Openreach that i'm not getting FTTP and there are "no plans" to put FTTP in my home. I place an order for FTTPoD.

Jan 2022: Openreach engineer comes out, says why do I want FTTPoD when they're deploying FTTP in the town. I show him the reply from Openreach CEO that i'm not getting it.

Openreach engineer shows me that it is being deployed in the areas where OR told me it isn't.

Today, I go out, and there are contractors running fibres in the areas the CEO told me directly, in no uncertain terms would "not be getting it". I go up and speak to the guy pulling the actual fibres .. hello mate, are you doing my street ? Answer: Yes. We're doing all the streets.

So it may be that I've just wasted £300 on a site survey and I might get it after all. I'm not holding my breath but wow, can't believe they told me i'm not getting it and none of the G.Fast streets are getting it , and today I literally see people doing this OPPOSITE MY STREET!!!!

Of course there is the possibility that someone is wrong. I may still not get it. This is not a private fibre deployment these guys are doing. They're John Henry Group contracted on behalf of OR to do an FTTP deployment. I asked them and they said they're going to wire "all the streets that lead off this one". Which includes mine.

I think that's great news. Hopefully OR will cancel the FTTPoD order and refund your fee.

Even if they don't, you're still at least £3K better off than you would have been, and likely getting it faster than if FTTPoD went through, so don't be too unhappy :)

Yeh they have form in that respect. I recall a couple of folk on TBB forums were caught in a similar situation a few years ago and they were refunded when it became clear that a commercial rollout would be built. As I recall in one instance it was after paying for the survey but prior to receiving a firm cost back and in the other case if memory serves it was very soon after they had confirmed costs, but I’m hazy on the details.
