Help finding any decent/affordable graphics card!

Issue is its a 4year old card
And there lies my major issue, a newly built Ryzen system, wanting a half-decent card that'll last me 3-4 years and yet there is nothing available to fill that void.

In a perfect world the RTX 2000 series would be affordable by now, but they're just stupid money too currently. I watched a 1660S go for £650 on ebay yesterday!

Well, I'd just get a new console anyway if I was going to spend that money. These manufacturers need to start realising the high cost of cards is pushing folk away from pc gaming.

Ideally I'd like a mid-end card, but there isn't any, period. A 1660 is 2.5 years old at this point, so utterly pointless buying at the sort of daft money they're going for these days. (currently £360 second hand on CEX)

Think its best to forgo the RTX cards altogether or wait until the 2000 series reach realistic price-points. (if they ever do.)

Had my GTX970 die, been looking for something to replace it for a few weeks now, but a secondhand 2 or 3 year old card, is still way overpriced.
I'm waiting for the RX6600XT due out around 11th August, might be available for a sensible price,if your quick, would like to see a few reviews first, but I might just take my pick from cards available & hope it's a good choice.

I wouldn't hold your breath, CEX is flogging second hand 6700XT's for £675 currently.

Just be thankful one of these Bitcoin miners is not next door sucking all the electricity into its PC's and causing blackouts.

Your cheap graphics board will appear, just not this year, maybe next year.

Join the PartAlert telegram (or discord), you'll get 3060ti (£369) from Scan from MSRP. Just need to hang around a lot and when the link becomes available add it to cart and it saves it allowing you a good 10mins to checkout.

I got a 3070 a couple of weeks ago and although I wanted the 3060ti I can't complain considering the prices others are paying to scalpers.

How does that work? Scan have a 3060 in stock for £550 and a 3060Ti for £653. How do you get the TI for nearly £300 less?

They're Nvidia's first edition cards sold through the Nvidia website (they're chosen retailer is Scan) they don't show up on the normal scan site. When they're available they show up on the Nvidia website with a generated URL. The part alert telegram has a way of fetching these urls when they become available. (I could be wrong about some of the details here, but hopefully you get the gist of it)

The last 'drop' as they're often called was on the 21st. This is what happens on the telegram. You get a notification click the link, add to cart. Then you have around 10mins to checkout. These cards are 1 per address, if you've ordered one before they will reject your order.

The list is a little short, fine if you're wanting to spend £350+ on a GPU, but theres absolutely nothing out there short of that. (other than a GT 710).

Well its mid October 2021 now, and I'm still to replace my old graphics card. If anything since I started this thread the market has continued to stagnate to the point where its an even worse situation now than it was. Its either a GT710 or a £350 MSRP card that's available that now sells at double that.

Now we're seeing both Nvidia and ATI not even trying any longer, with poor quality hardware offering no real improvements over previous cards but charging twice as much for the privilege because they can. Then the scalpers add their mark up on top of that. So you're left with something of no value, that won't last you the lifetime of your PC.

The newly released ATI RX6600 card, ATI didn't even bother publicising. I like to think it was because they were so embarrassed. But in reality they just jumped on the money wagon.

Guess it's a case of waiting for Intel's Alchemist DG2 line in January 2022, in hopes they see the gaping hole in the market and start producing cards for the sweet spot £200 price bracket, you know, ones that actually offer value for money, and show ATI and Nvidia some much needed competition.

I hear there's been no FE stock in over a month. SO yeah things aren't looking good.

If you want to take a chance Intel are releasing their new GPUs in Q1 2022. According to specs the top model should be around the same level of a 3070 and cheaper.

Currently I think the Alchemist would be ideal, but i'm not hopeful of Intel offering any Value for money, especially so when the other two don't.

Oh look, the RX 6500 XT has just been released to solve all our GPU issues!

Never mind. How can AMD literally drop the ball so badly?????? Literally the 5 year old RX570 walks all over it..........AMD isn't even trying any more.

And when Linus says you shouldn't buy it, I mean, how bad does it have to be to earn that accolade???

I needed to upgrade as a Google Sketchup update meant it refused to run. Ran into similar frustrations re gamers / miners scalping each other.

I went for an old workstation card, cos they are beefier when new but too old to be of interest to scalpers. Reasoning being like choosing a 2014 ferrari over a 2021 BMW, I went for a NVIDIA Quadro K2200. Also they tend to come from old corporate stock so less likely to be abused.

Anyway NVIDIA Quadro K2200 with 4Gb can start about £90 on ebay, and sketchup is more than happy with one. I paid £85.

Yeah, I considered them, but its not far off what I've already got. Still must have burned a bit spending £85 on a 8 year old card BFG?

Workstation cards are not beefier than Geforce cards when new, they're the same GPU cores (aside from some of the very high end cards) but are certified for 3D applications and can have some other benefits like more display outputs. The Quadro K2200 uses a Maxwell GM107 the same as a low end Geforce 750 so it was a middling card on release.

It certainly is worth considering Quadro cards with the crazy prices on consumer cards but for those looking at Quadro cards make sure to check what performance the card has as Quadros can be more expensive for cards that are not fast.

All the quadro cards I can find on ebay look on par with my current GT640, so it'd be silly to throw £100+ on one.

If I were building a new system I'd probably go prebuild/laptop, standalone GPU prices are insane atm.
