Many AltNets use an alternative HellermanTyton AFN-style enclosure - all smooth sided from the outside, hinged lid affair. The connections are internal, usually LC/APC types.

Completely separate network - so separate drop cable/service-splice point and separate ONT/router in your property.
Finally, yes there is a finite physical limit on how much gear can be mounted on a pole. Although the bracket arrangement, as seen in the opening post (second photo) of the recent Race between providers thread, assists in 'stacking' additional termination boxes on the limited pole space.
