Starlink for RVs

Just landed…or is that took off 🤣. Anyway it’s available now!

Pretty much available in all “active” service locations now. They are claiming the new dishy etc is in stock £529 + £55 delivery/handling

Service is £114 pcm and can be paused at will. Minimum is one month. No pro rating of charge. Can roam within the same continent. Residential Starlink still gets service priority in the same cell.

The new dishy terminal looks pretty small, especially compared to the original.

Lovely jubbly, amazing news for many.

Those prices though..

In this publicity shot it definitely looks more square than the v3 residential rectangular (30cm x 50cm) terminal.

Wow lovely design!

Still see a few of them around Lucian, I loved the BSB piccy quality, DMac was way ahead of its time.

Here's a piccy for any 'youngsters' wondering what I'm gabbing on about.

The original Dishy Mcflatface. :)

Only got round to taking mine down 2 years ago.

Sorry, now I've went off topic yet again.

This is just Starlink + the Portability add-on, I think.

They mention on their website that other services always have higher priority than RV, so I think regular Starlink may be faster in congested areas, even with portability/using it outside its home cell.

From here: https://support.starlink.com/?topic=76371e8a-d994-e9d1-f96d-456e385cb0b5

"Best Effort Service: Network resources are always de-prioritized for Starlink for RVs users compared to other Starlink services, resulting in degraded service and slower speeds in congested areas and during peak hours. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of the service are not guaranteed. Service degradation will be most extreme in "Waitlist" areas on the Starlink Availability Map during peak hours. See Starlink Specification for expected performance here."

One of my pipe dreams is a motorhome. Going to hire one soon and see what the family thinks of it. I had envisioned putting a 5G modem in there, but the places people go in motorhomes, starlink is likely to be a better option.
