ZTE MC801A Review

Thanks for the updates by the way - Please let us know if the rollback to B04 solves the re-booting issue (y)
So far, its been pretty good! - will continue to montitor today. I had my nest cam on the other broadband provider I have as a back up (still in cool off period for three"). I've now switched it over. This will give me the best indicator for drop outs as I can see the cam go offline within the history

Heh, I got an MC801A yesterday at an insanely low price and now I know why… it’s on B09 firmware and reboots haha

I have a question about the MC7010 and I’m sorry for asking here, but feel like I’ll get more help here. Is there a way to force an update? I have tried two different sims, EE and ID Mobile, but it won’t update.

It’s been like this for about 3 weeks and it’s still on V1.02 firmware, even tho V2.0 firmware has been out for about a year.

Yes it does . 4 days now no reboots , 100% uptime .
Thanks @dommers and @Sam640 .

OK, so before I call the Three Helpline again...

Can you confirm that that you
A) Had the MC801A from Three
B) It came with B09 firmware
C) It has updated itself (with no intervention) 'back' to B04

If so, I'll call them and ask how this is being rolled out.

Thanks in advance.

See if you can do a manual update through the settings within http://192.168.0.1/

But to answer, your questions
A) yes
B) soon as I connected up I saw it had updated before I could disable the auto update feature
C)after I logged in 192.168 I saw a message pop up to say updated (however try the manual approch)

that all failes contact three and see if they can force through their end.

Since the change over, I've not seen any disconnect issues so far... (fingers crossed)

my 5g mast is finally live!

im planning to just use a SMARTY sim for £20 or maybe a Three sim for £28 for a public I.P

ok now issue is, our mast is just three 5g but my experience with Three 4g masts before this new one has been WOEFUL, maybe this new mast will fix it all but i dont know.

I was going to buy a CPE Pro 2 for £160 but its locked to Three which i dont like just incase we ever have to switch.

THey also have this ZTE in stock in CEX its £145

Do you think this is an unlocked model? Should i just get the proven CPE pro and live with the three lock? there seems to be issues with some firmware on this ZTE reading back,

I've seen a few posts on CEX saying they are locked on three, but if you want one, that unlocked then would be better going to store and having a look if you can, if not then I'm not sure if you can order one and request a looked one 🤷‍♂️, if you can afford one I would get an unlocked one off amazon for example.

and in terms of CPE pro 2 for only £160? (albiet locked) is that more stable? i have no external antenna so that is not a concern.

I can keep my b525 4g router in case of emergency and need to use another brand 4g, there is only one 5g mast here and its Three anyway

@stoke1863 i'm using the 3 branded mc801a on giffgaff/o2 without issue, would save you £25.
yes but £25 in the grand scheme of things isnt too much more, especially if its not as good (reading pages back of issues), im actually waiting for a full fibre roll out within 6 months so this device will be sold on after, thinking it will be easier to sell on the CPE Pro 2 at a later date.

How is the wifi performance of this? my current b525 is pretty crap wifi coverage.

will the MC801A still update on a sim that didn't originally come with the router? I have a Three MC801A here, but I'm going through ID Mobile.

It will be unfortunate if I'm stuck on the buggy B09 firmware :ROFLMAO:

Looks to be £120

It's disgraceful that they buy them for £19 and sell them for 6x, that's the problem of rampant capitalism!

I don't blame CeX though, £120 is still a good deal for the buyer.
More fool the person selling to them for pennies when they could easily have got £100+ on eBay/Facebook market etc.

Anyone else been rolled back yet or managed to find a way to force the update? Would love to be able to use the 5g on my 5g hub 😒

Been asking Three for a rollback for over a week - promises never met... usual excuses read from the script.

Finally pushed (mutters of breach of contract, mis-sold goods and services etc.) and got through to high level complaints - as if by magic.... B04 appears over night.

Been running for about 14 hours without a single reboot. (B09 managed a max of 3 hours between reboots)

Added bonus - 50% increase in speed, which seems to be constant. Sitting happy are around 380Mbps.

So I received my Three MC801a with b04 firmware and the external TS9 ports definitely do not work. But they do work on my Sotel B09.
