Having moved from Pipex because I thought £24 was a bit pricey for a 1MB service, I migrated to IDNET Max. I was advised bt BT that I should expect speeds of up to 4MB. However Max ended up a disaster, speed set at 1.7MB and very slow with very frequent drop outs. I was advised that a fixed 2MB line would be more stable and that my line could take the speed, however there were extended periods where I couldnt access the net on that service as well. I now find myself being downgraded to 1MB because BT have now told my ISP that in fact my line cannot support 2MB.
So I am back to square one and now paying £25 per month for the 1MB service. Although the customer service has been superb, again I think £25 is a bit expensive.
My question is can anyone recommend an ISP who can provide a 1MB fixed line with at least 20GB of download, that is cheaper. I do like the smaller independants with 1 month contracts but may decide to go for something cheaper from one of the more mainstream ISP's. I need to balance cost against speed against a fairly limited amount of downloading.
The more I look the more I see the Max service being offered, so I would be grateful for any advice.
I am being moved to 1MB tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see if there are still continual drop outs which I suppose would point to something else.
Cheers for any help
