12 Hourly signal drops??!!

This is a problem I've had for a while, and the tech support guys can't help. I wonder if anyone else can?

I've been a UK Online user since Summer 2005 after moving from AOL (who we cancelled with in Winter, I spent all of spring trying to get rid of them), and their 2 Megabit service was pretty good. However, after moving to their 8 Megabit service, a few problems have arisen that neither the standard or higher level tech support are able to resolve.
When connecting to the service (I use a USB modem for now since both the routers I bought were faulty, although it's days are numbered as it's started to generate a few BSODs) I will see "verifying username or password" for about 10 seconds, then receive an error, 721 or 718 in most cases (usually 721). A redial usually then gets a connection, after more waiting at the UN/PWD box, although it usually takes between 1 and 6 redials to connect. This has occurred pretty much ever since the 8Mb switchon. In addition, at random points during the day the DSL signal disappears momentarily and then appears back (although it takes the modem a few attempts to find it again, the light flashes then goes out a few times before it flashes then stays stable, and this is also true when I first turn the PC on, the computer can out-boot the modem by a good 30 seconds before the DSL signal is found). This used to be random, with a 10% chance of it happening between 1am and 4pm, and a 100% chance of it happening about 2 or 3 times between 4pm and 1am. A tech support agent recently suggested removing the Sky digibox from the phone line to resolve the problem. What happens is that the d/cs are no longer random, but occur twice a day, literally, every 12 hours. Initially this was at 12:32am and 12:32pm, but the "clock" that's in whatever is causing this is gaining time, it now happens at 12:28am and 12:28pm, every day. Without fail. Over the past 3 weeks or so this has been the case I have only had a single signal drop outside these times. I have tried removing the cordless phone we recently received, and the problem still occurs, so it isn't that. I might add that before the sky digibox was removed, there was never a regular disconection time behind all the random ones. This c. 12:30 issue has only happened since the box was removed, or around that period of time. The only thing the guys say is that a telephone extension cable we use could cause interference. That I understand, but every 12 hours? Doesn't sound likely to me.
If anyone can shed any light on this bizarre issue, that'd be much appreciated.

Although its probably not the extension cable, you'll have to try it without as BT will only garentee ADSL working at the master socket.
