1p Mobile…Poor 5G speeds

Hi All

Just testing the 1p mobile sim in the N5103e router, as I am in a good EE 5G coverage area. Sadly, I’m only getting poor speeds (less than my 4G Lebara sim) is there something I should be altering in the router settings, which currently is the factory settings.

Ps, I’m now getting full blue signal strength and a blue globe.
Thanks

Hi

Poor speed is 20 down and 3 up. Router says connected to `n28 and B3.

4G speed is 90 to 110 down and 45 up

Unfortunately I saw similar issues with the low 5G band with EE
It’s actually really shoddy service. We only have the coverage maps as any form of indication to the service we may receive, and as another thread poster has said, what’s the point in having them if they don’t give what they say. Glad I didn’t shell out for an EE contract sim now!

Just looked at Cellmapper, and I have seen this regarding cell 10 and the theoretical speed for download. I am connected to this mast and it is literally in spitting distance of me. Can anyone enlighten me as to why it shows such a high figure when Vodafone are only 3/4G?

Thanks

Try 4G.

For me 5G is barely double figures, 4G 3 figures no problem whatsoever.

EE seems to be rolling out 5G with threadbare transmitter coverage.

Thanks for the reply.

I normally use Vodafone 4G, but wanted to try 5G after seeing that EE had rolled it out in my area. Since getting the 5G router, my Vodafone/Lebara 4G sim gives me speeds in the 90’s, so was hopeful of the EE 5G, but it seems the 4G from Lebara is quicker. Just wondered why the mast was showing such a high speed for Vodafone 4G. Didn‘t know 4G could go as fast as that.

4G can be very fast. Eg: almost 900Mbps:

5G can be fast and if you check Three's thread here you'll see speeds over 1Gbps, but it can also be very slow, just like 4G can be very slow. In some areas 4G from the same network might be faster than their 5G.

It all depends on the bands used, distance/signal strength, the load on the mast, if the site has fast backhaul or not, etc.
