1p Mobile Answerphone weirdness / getting disabled

Hi

I have noticed some very weird behaviour with 1pmobile in terms of answerphone diverts.

The default setup on the website when you get your sim seems to be most things on in network settings, including answerphone on "unreachable" "busy" or "no answer" . However when I tested after making 1 setting change in network settings and saving the answerphone it not actually on , despite what the website says.

Example :

Call from another phone and on 1p mobile reject the call - result : "user busy" message at other end - no answerphone

Put on do not disturb on iPhone (with no call exceptions) on 1p mobile phone and call from another phone - result "user busy" - no answerphone

Switch off 1p mobile phone - get a message that user is not available and try and call or text later, no answerphone

Now if I manually turn all these diverts on with the codes it seems to work, e.g.

**61*+447953222222# then press call

to turn on diverts when no answer, test from other phone, works as expected.

However, this is where it gets weirder - if you go to 1p mobile site and change a network setting that is not answerphone related - e.g. turn off international calling and save

when you check back in next 15 mins or so (or however long it takes for it to stop warning you on the website that it is updating settings), the call diverts are wiped out again, as seen if you check status via

*#61# then press call

The same is true for all the diverts , they all get turned off when you update a network setting despite not changing answerphone settings and despite the site saying they are on. I even disabled them on the site, then re-enabled them, still the same, none of them are actually working until I do the manual codes again to activate. Since all network settings are in one big list with a "save" button at the bottom I am assuming that it reapplies all the settings, and despite what it says about answerphone for diverts being on, it actually disables it again.

I had this before and thought I was going mad or maybe it was a weird porting issue, but this is a brand new SIM with no number ported.

Just wondering why I am not seeing this reported anywhere , do people, like me, not realise ? Do people never change the default settings and maybe it initially works ?

I for one do change the defaults, but it's to completely disable voicemail. I hate it. Probably of no use whatsoever for the OP (sorry) but several SIMs including 1p mobile seem to honour my wish that voicemail never troubles me.

A few of us have mentioned 1p Mobile voicemail problems in the main EE MVNO thread, eg:

Useful info that it's a change to settings that disables it. I discovered only sending MMI gets it working again.

I can't guarantee that is the cause, what I can say is that it stayed on for hours the other day, and today I turned it back on with the codes and 5 mins after switched on international calling, then saved , 10 mins later it was off again. I am now not touching the settings just to see if they reset themselves with no changes, stable for a few hours. Think 1p must have something badly setup on the backend.

It seems that most of the networks do suggest using those codes to enable answerphone on iPhone and they do not usually have those settings in your account / portal.

I initially noticed is because if you put an iPhone on Do not disturb without the answerphone working , people just get "user busy" without it even ringing , so people let me know they couldn't leave a message.

If anyone else wants to use the codes to turn the various modes on / off or check status they are on here https://www.1pmobile.com/ask-penny?help=calling-and-texting - under "how do I change diverts to voicemail?" . Will copy below in case that goes away and people come across this post looking for answers

Your phone should have options to specify how and when calls are diverted to your voicemail.

If your phone does not have menu options for this you can use the following (MMI/USSD) codes to control the diverts.

You dial the following as if making a phone call. Your phone should then interoperate these codes and send the relevant instructions to the network.

Just to follow up, I have made no network settings changes and after setting answerphone on vi MMI codes the answerphone settings have stayed put. I will probably email 1p to let them know, whether they actually believe me or do anything other than suggest I restart my phone is another matter :ROFLMAO:
