1p mobile unlimited FUP

It will be interesting to learn if this "hidden" 500GB FUP cap is actually enforced.

You will notice (if you have a SIM on the "unlimited" tariff) that the 1p Mobile online "dashboard" has changed—the helpful countdown bar in Usage -> Mobile Data has been removed (although you can still see how much you've used by drilling down into the "show by month" view).

Academic for me, as I never even hit the old max 200GB!

Anyone know when ESIM is coming to 1p?

So.. in an experiment to see if there was an alternative to my normal Smarty Unlimited Sim for Home Broadband, I popped in my 1pmobile sim into my 5103e router and bought an unlimited boost.

I've been using quite a bit of data as the Sony Core app has been made available on my TV which can use 80Mbps for streaming films. Anyhow after using the sim for a couple of weeks, I woke up to no internet. 1pmobile have halted my data and I can see I've used around 600GB. I've had not notification / email of this. I was expecting similar behaviour that some have noted with Scancom sims where you loose 5G and only have 4G or a restricted bandwidth, but 1pmobile just cuts you off.

So 1pmobile is unfit for my use as we often use between 700Gb and 1Tb of data a month.

So yeah not unlimited at all.

Further to this I enquired with 1p customer services via text and they replied a few hours later with the below.. resetting my sim .. now I have data back. I wonder if the service rep has just overridden their FUP in this instance. Hmm. Either way 1pmobile would be an "expensive" way of getting unlimited data across EE.. scancom would be the way.. but wanted to trial useage temporary.

Thanks for testing this, 600GB fair use limit seems quite low in today's world.

Actually - No its not... At least for mobile...
Mobile was never designed to be permanent broadband services for all. Its designed for flexibility for those who cant get good connectivity.

Also if you check reports about monthly average usage its usually about 30 GB PU a month.

But for us... Techies... And Broadband aficionados.. We see it as not fair because unlimited isnt unlimited. I mean 600 GB is a lot...

I look at leased lines day to day where people on 100 / 100 or 100 / 1GBPS and they use less than 600 GB a month ¬_¬

In terms of mobile, I agree, 600GB is a lot.
I get 300GB a month and the most I've used of it is 130GB. 300 is as good as unlimited for mobile, in my case.

However, for mobile BB, 600GB is nothing I agree.

Interestingly the ASA only responded to my first report on this for scancom, they never responded on 1p mobile or the 3rd one I did. Not very good if they felt to sweep it under the rug rather than decline or accept it officially. Although they may have intended for that response to apply for all 3 complaints.

Partially agree, however the boost should not be marketed as unlimited when it clearly is not. Also the Internet connectivity in this country is just so behind the times! I'm a few miles outside of a big city (Southampton) and they've only just laid fibre locally in a not particularly rural area. In the depths of rural france this summer full blast 1gb connection.. same in Denmark and Australia. So have to rely on 5G for decent speeds otherwise back to 29mbps on an expensive twisted pair.

I agree about the marketing side of it - Completely deceptive.

I don’t agree with this, 600GB is a lot but if you’re marketing something as unlimited it’s should be unlimited. Imagine going to a fast food and them selling unlimited soda but then after your second they stop you from having anymore. People would be outraged, I suspect the reason many aren’t with unlimited data plans is because they don’t hit the FUP.

The whole ‘we’re protecting our network’ thing is rubbish, if you don’t have the resources to sell a product don’t sell it.

If forced to do unlimited I guess they could argue it's mobile plan only. If using it for mobile broadband you're against TOS?

1pMobile specifically say on their website "you can use a 1pMobile SIM in a router to share your data connection. However, please ensure that your router is compatible with the SIM and supports the necessary network bands. If you have any specific questions about your router's compatibility, it's best to check with the router manufacturer. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask!"

Personally, I can't make a dent in 500GB using 1pMobile for mobile broadband, but I agree—either the tariff is unlimited or it's not. I'm surprised the ASA is apparently so relaxed about this.
