1p Mobile?

I contacted 1p and they advised that they are working on eSIM support and an app so I might wait a while and see what happens. I’ve a couple of months left on my sky contract.

1p are one of the minority of operators using EE's core IMS so benefitting from HD/HD+ calls. Others like Lyca (which are about to be wound up by the look of it) and Spusu run their own IMS with basic PSTN quality inter-network calls. It makes a big difference. Vodafone and Three seem to host all (?)their MVNOs as tenants on their core IMS. O2 mostly I think.

They'll have to go eSIM sooner rather than later, I'd be astonished if the new iPhones next month retain physical SIM support.

Doubtful, if you look at the countries the international version is sold in there is no way that all the networks are ready for eSIM only.

They weren't in the US yet Apple still went ahead with it, some pretty fast growing MVNOs (at the time) like Ting didn't have eSIM.

The main determiner though in Europe is that there are still a number of markets with very limited/zero eSIM availability and it's very unlikely Apple will divide the market further. But they might...

1p mobile is the best move I made very happy with the service and full uncapped EE Speeds. With EU roaming and now they are starting to do visual Voicemails

I hope they have a very long term deal with EE, because I doubt we'd get all that at this price if the contract was renewed now.

Speed caps for example, it doesn't make sense for EE plans to have 25 or 100Mbps caps and cheaper MVNOs to have unlimited speeds.

Eventually the party will end. Let's enjoy it while it lasts 😛

I doubt if the MNO’s in a lot of those countries are anywhere near offering eSIM access, let alone the MVNO’s.

A good number of the countries in that list require government ID registration for mobile network services. You could imagine in several countries that means a visit to an physical authorised retailer that has the approved scanner for your ID, and you get a physical SIM in return. And I believe there might even be a couple of countries where the handset IMEI also has to also be additionally registered.

So virtual purchase and distribution of eSIMs is likely to challenge the status quo. If regulatory authorities decide that eSIMs are not something that they want to accommodate any time soon then you can imagine they would just shrug their shoulders and ignore the problem whilst there are still some handsets that meet their requirements.
