That's good news I think folks. 😊

Update
Virgin has confirmed that, “initially“, Gig2 and symmetrical broadband speeds are “only available on our full fibre network as part of our venture with nexfibre“. So those in Virgin Media’s own RFoG FTTP and HFC areas are out of luck, for now.

They're charging £6 a month for symmetrical speeds???

That should honestly be a benefit if you're a Volt customer because that's absurd imo.

I wonder whether VM has any plans to upgrade the existing HFC network to full fibre eventually in the future, isn't offered here right now because we use HFC (other areas in the city do use Nexfibre afaik though).

Being in a Community Fibre area I don't see the 2Gbps offer being of much use, but 300/300 or thereabouts, priced when on special offer would be preferable to anything Openreach are offering as a secondary connection.

This is a positive move for greater availability of symmetric speeds. Yes, the £6 charge is annoying, but it's both a good way to gauge demand and avoid irritating DOCSIS areas. Easier to say the chargeable extra is not available in an area than offering an inferior product for the same price.

And that's the starting price before your annual increments.

However it will give some competition to the business altnets, making "leased line" type connections for £150 per month or thereabouts.

Been on 2gig sometime now, shame about the price for 1:1 but isn't all bad, I assume £84 is RRP? just like 1gig is always £60+? but always avalible on offer for £40 odd?

tbh I thought I remembered 1Gig being a similar price (like £110) at launch but that might have been with TV and landlines

oh that definitly sounds like some sort of AIO package.

Is this actually available to order? or just initial announcement

Vermin are using an alternative definition of "now available" that, in actual english, means "there are press releases about it but you can't have it".

I'm in a Nexfibre/XGSPON area and it's not showing as available to me (yet).

I'm happy to provide my address details to @Mark.J if he wants to clarify availability with VM and update the news article accordingly.

Better than the crazy money to get over 200mbit upload on Openreach right?

I tried to get an answer from Virgin's web-chat this morning:
Nice, would explain why the 2Gig product is nowhere to be found online lol

happy to provide my address too to compare the difference, as I'm currently on 2gig, might show if the area is "capable"?

When you've been paying £120 a month to run Starlink and VDSL like I have for the past 6 months, £90 for 2Gbps symmetric is a complete bargain.
I was paying £20-30 for 20/5 at the time i would have paid £100/mo for 100mb lol.

the price for 2gbps on VM is crazy and the fact that you have to pay £6 more for same upload as download is even more crazy, for £84 the 2gbps plan should be download and upload... but vm is greedy :C
