ok l'll start with the hardware question:

as some may know l recently upgraded and its been great now l have a working computer, altho with all new computers there is always one or two glitches to be expected.... (apart from my major MSI board didnt work lol) lve been having weird probs with my burner for some reason its acting weird like not burning at full speed now altho it hast dropped a disk to my knowladge my previous system always burned at 8x however this one doesnt even pass 5x most of the time and lm using the same Datawrite (titanium's) disks l did previously, now lm wondering if part of the prob is the fact l have an IDE drive on the same strap, l do know if l burned from it l should expect data errors however l havent been burning from anything other than SATA drives and since a friend of mine has a simular setup it got me wondering why he doesnt have problems... but lm thinking just maybe my problem is resulting from the IDE drive on the same strap..

ok for my second question (to all linux geeks):

lm managing a webserver, it does have CPanel on it however some of the things lve been doing go beyond that of managing the server with a graphical interface... as lve had to edit the php.ini and such in fact recently l had to do allot of work and research on DNS and do some configs on some small files due to the WHM been a cow... anywho my question is regarding a firewall software called APF which lm trying to config so that l can block cirtain ports on certain IPs, you see lm trying to make it so cpanel cannot be called from anywhere other than the redundant IP we wont use for anything other than WHM/Cpanel, and since lm a noob learning linux on the go (not so scared of the command line as l used to be lol) l need some understandable documentation on how to configure the firewall via SSH altho if someone has any great programs that would help me out better than putty lm all ears :)

The number of devices on a single IDE cable shouldnt effect the data transfer rate. Make sure your IDE interfaces are running at 133Mbps and not 100 in the bios. Are you sure the disc & cd burner support 8x?

yes lm sure, it was brand new and the same exact model as my old one (which just happens to be a dual layer burner)
