24mb line or not...

Garbage_Guy

Casual Member
I am 1.97Km as the crow flies (dsl zone ) and Be say I can get upto 24mb, what sort of speeds should i get?, I currently am with an entanet supplier, Firenet, and the highest connection is 3.7mb.
I have a Thomson Spedtouch 330 not sure how to get the noise levels on this one.
Cheers

Hi there,

If you PM me your home telephone number i will look it up on the Be/BT wholesale ADSL checker which will come back with your actual line length and possible speeds.

Many Thanks

There is no way you will get anywhere near 24mb, I think 7mb is more realistic with that distance, but cannot say for sure until I see actual line stats, tbh, I think you'll get less than 7mb as well, so don't build up your hopes. :(

I dont know what its like here in UK but in Australia i know that living 2kms away from the exchange would allow up to maybe 14mb speeds. Obviously copper quality and other factors play. Reality is likely to be lower but i would like to think more than 7mb is possible.

again, Oz and UK could be different but here is a guide we used while in Australia if it helps.

Thats a nice offer from Darwin.

2km line length is different from 2km actual distance from the exchange, the line could be in effect double that as it loops up & down streets etc..

Thanks guys, wow you all stay up late. lol
Darwin,The BT Wholesale link says on Adsl Max I can get 2.5mb, but thats always going from that to 4mb, but does it show the LLU lines for the 24mb ISP's.

Thanks, think I beat ya to it, lol
See you get up early to, or were you still up, lol
Just a pity these 24/22mb providers dont give you a clue as to what speed you might get, like adsl max does

Thats the bit we wanna know about :) (btw, I'd remove the ip addresses on the stats list)

running this on the Sky User ADSL2+ LLU checker we get..

Sky User Checker said:
ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 6mb to 7mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This is a rough guide only, and provides results of up to 24mb with the data made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Speed that you will receive on any ISP's product. Due to the fact that your Telephone Line does not run in a straight line from the Exchange, the Distance from Exchange figures, are interpreted as if your Telephone Line is that exact length. In reality, it is highly unlikely that this is the case.

I was very nearly right :D

Well thats double what i get now, and if the prices are right for O2,same service I believe, which starts on the 15th, I should get it for £20pm,
Not to worried about the IP, find loads on google.
Cheers

I have similar stats to you:
DOWN UP
att 49-52dB 31dB
snr 6.5 6.5
sync ~6000 ~1200

It keeps varying depending on time of day it syncs at - drops connection few times a day which I assume is due to bebox (speedtouch 780WL) lots of ppl saying this on beforum. I connected up another modem but that only syncs at ~3000, 6dB snrm (uses different protocol instead of ADSL2+) but it doesn't drop connection.
Most I got is ~6700kbps and lowest ~5600kbps.

How do I find my snr level? is it on my list on Page 1 ?
What would be good if someone had these levels, THEN moved over to an LLU provider, THEN told us how their speed went up or not,...... anyone?

If you look at my sig... I was on AOL sync of ~4mbit down 448k up (ADSL max, BT ipstream). The last post gives details for my be* connection.

The line dropping is due to the fault I think - BT not fixed it yet.

Your stats:
ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 49
ReceiveMargin_dB= 9
RxOutputPower_dBm= 0
SendAttenuation_dB= 28
SendMargin_dB= 18

Since be* equipment auto sets ds snrm at 6.5dB you can expect to receive a similar speed to me.

Cheers,Holom n TRIaXOR, even if my speed almost doubles I will be pleased whichever LLU provider I go with.
I get the connection drops about 5-10 times a day to!! Speedtouch 330.

This is what i got from Mel's link, cheers m8 :)

We estimate that if using a rate adaptive up to 8Mbps service your maximum line speed will be: 3700Kbps

If you are on a Max product, that uses the IP Profile system (sometimes called BRAS Data Rate) if you maintain the above line speed for 3 days or more your IP Profile would be set to: 3mbs

If your service provider uses ADSL2+ we estimate you may manage line speeds of: 5904kbps
With ADSL2+ the maximum IP throughput is likely to be around: 5225kbps
