3.4Ghz sell off

I see from the BBC website that this 'sell-off' has been completed with all of the 15 licenses sold.

Fine .. But does the 3.4Ghz have the same problems as the 2.4Ghz (802.11B/G) it that it is line of sight, unable to go over hills etc ?
Anything over 800MHz is certainly Line-of-Sight. Hence why your mobile phone doesn't work in some valleys :)

TV signals (450-850MHz) are fairly line of sight as well, as is FM radio, but less so, down at 100MHz.

Therefore, all wireless networking, no matter how it's delivered, will be line of sight only.

What remains to be seen is the actual amount of power these companies will be allowed to transmit. They should hopefully be able to provide a fair few miles from one site.

That's if they've still got enough money to build a network, after spending a total of £7m on the licences

Well where I live even mobile phone do not work - Only upstairs and then with only 1 bar.

So I guess it's gonna have to be ISDN, BT have given be the numbers on our exchange, 406 domestic and 23 business so even an ADSL campaign will be useless.

Thanks for the details
