3 are not having much luck with their poles in Chester

From the Chester Standard:

https://www.chesterstandard.co.uk/news/23559429.5g-masts-proposed-chester-two-bids-rejected/

TWO further applications for 5G masts in Chester have been lodged with the council – while two applications have been thrown out.

The two new applications are for a 15-metre mast on Castle Croft Road, Westminster Park, and for a 16-metre mast on Newton Lane.
Earlier this year we reported that all but one planning application for a 5G mast in the city had been rejected since the start of the year.
That total now stands at eight rejections and one approval.

Is this the usual ratio of rejections?

@lloydsj if this is your local area, raise it with your MP and OFCOM, the government can overrule these objections but the taxpayer needs to raise their concerns that you are not getting the coverage you need.

I live in Chester, but I'm with Lebara so using Vodafone. There's no sign of Vodafone 5G here.

It seems to me that the 5G opposition is very organised and vocal, and that majority of people think 4G is good enough and so can't be bothered.

I don’t think it’s right the local community has a say in whether new telecom masts are built in their local area. I guess it’ll be interesting when 3/4G is switched off and people will be moaning.

As a Cestrian, I hate the fact I can barely use mobile data with a decent speed around the city centre. There are patches of 5G with Three but usually not in places where I’d use a device.

I wouldn’t object to having a mast installed on my property as long as Three/EE give me a kickback and thus incentivise mmWave? ;)

I agree some parts of the city centre have poor coverage. It is particularly bad at weekends.

I can see why the council won't allow large transmitters inside the city walls, but surely you could put small cells on phone boxes etc.

Some of those lamp posts with small-cells definitely wouldn’t go a miss. I recall having poor signal just about everywhere but somehow it usually worked pretty well.

The new monopole will sort most of the coverage woes that I had out.

I also live near Chester-Think Vodafone has forgotten about this part of the country

All around Liverpool,St Helen’s and Warrington etc seem to have 5G in the majority of places but then you have places such as Chester with no 5G, all around the Wirral no 5G, all of north wales without 5G apart from 1 town with about 20,000 people which is Llandudno which only has 1 5G mast (guessing they upgraded 1 mast in North Wales to 5G so they could say they have 5G in some places on the north wales coast)

Then Crewe and Shrewsbury etc all no 5G with Vodafone but this April someone did ask Ker Anderson on twitter who I believe is in charge of Vodafone’s network roll out etc when Shrewsbury will get 5G and Ker told them it will be a few years yet until Shrewsbury gets 5G so I’m hoping the other places I have mentioned do not have to wait as long as Shrewsbury does.

From around the end of April until 2 weeks ago Vodafone’s coverage checker was showing 5G coverage in Ellesmere Port when you select the planned coverage for the next 3 months but that has since changed and it now says there is no 5G coverage currently there or planned

But Vodafone’s coverage checker is now saying that in the next 3 months west Kirby in the Wirral is supposedly getting 5G and showing as tiny bits of that 5G as weak planned signal in north wales

Either way hopefully Vodafone decide to add 5G to Chester and all the places around here sooner than later

Interesting, because the east Cheshire area is full of very good Vodafone 5G. There's a band of 5G coverage running from south Manchester down to Macclesfield, then Congleton and down through the rural area to Stoke-on-Trent.

Chester has poor coverage in general. They should really ban objections unless they wanna put it in their front lawn then they get a say.

I’ll be moving home to Chester soon, aiming around Hoole area.

Anyone running Three broadband in/near this location? Seems the cheapest option, won’t need anything spectacular for two of us, both predominantly office based.

Still been very little movement in Chester in regards to NR.

I think Three have a solitary NR site.

I seen Vodafone and sky have fibre but they’re more than what I pay now.

Will check all options when I actually move in January.

I believe in terms of land based connections it is a well connected city.

Plenty of CityFiber coverage there.
