4GEE vs 5GEE Hubs

Hi

Does anyone know how the 4GEE Home Router 2 compares to the 5GEE router when working on 4G (besides the 5G's limited ports)? I'm thinking of getting the 5G router for a bit of future-proofing, but didn't want the actual 4G performance to be any worse!

I would be buying outright (well, a 1 month contract) and putting an EE business sim in. I would go for the Huawei CPE 5G, but can’t seem to find it anywhere for a reasonable price. Does the 5GEE hub compare well?

Thanks all.

It’s an Alcatel device and I’m still not really too sure how I feel about Alcatel. I would always go for Huawei as that’s what I’ve always used and has always been reliable. I’ve had their B535, two E3372h sticks and a huawei mifi at this point and all worked flawlessly and still work now.

Thanks! Does anyone know where you can actually get a CPE 5G at a not ridiculous price?

I see CEX is probably the least worst (though used of course). Is there much of a difference between the Pro and Pro 2?

Hi VWW,

Cheapest I can see the 5G CPE Pro 2 at is £380 at Clove.

Clove

It's usually way over £400 most places now.

Still a lot of pennies I know, but maybe try ebay for a used older version, or even CEX.

Only thing is, unlocked status verification with used models may be a problem unless it's specifically mentioned.

Be better buying the Dlink £325 or Huawei £400 5G MiFi units, BT/EE units are heavily customised firmware that can’t be changed.

Even Netgear support is bamboozled by the removal of Carrier Aggregation on bands EE use on the (EE supplied) Netgear M2 but EE got the firmware as they wanted it.

EE also lock out other networks bands so you always come back to EE for the “best experience”, that’s not too much a problem just now with 5G (unless you are Voda with no 700MHz 5G) but 5G roll out will catch up with 4G then the 3:4G refarming to 5G it will become a bigger problem.

Avoid EE/BT mobile broadband products firmware at all costs. It’s not pretty, they also fail to adequately update devices firmware for even their own network and 1 update is usually the only update, even after they acquire spectrum bands as the products are not supported after 2 years from introduction EVEN if they still sell them. BT/EE won’t pay manufacturers for firmware updates they just subside new products (that hopefully they can tie you in for 2 year term).

BT the crazy frog network.
