5ber discussion

GL-iNet will be selling an esim card like 5ber and esim.me
cool! but the "contact sales" bit seems a bit annoying. hopefully they just put it for sale in the store. When I see "contact sales" it immediately makes me think they have different pricing for different customers, or they're not interested in one-off sales.

not much more in the forums than quite soon:

alzhao is Alfie Zhao, Co-Founder of GL-iNet.

Nice to know, but no retail end user pricing information.

Any ideas? WIllit be cheaper than 5ber esim?

$19.90

It seems they ar emore geared towards Routers and Industrial users. Early days still.

Anyone have experience using these in phones?

these eSIM from GL.iNet looks like they are embedded chips within the device or am I misreading it?

They're trying to basically explain sim vs esim and failing a little bit.

1. With physical SIM the chip is inside the actual sim card and it is preprogrammed. It's a approx 5MHz chip with about 128-256kb memory. Similar to debit cards btw.

2. An esim (that qr code) is a way to program a chip that is inside the smartphone.

3. What they're selling is a physical SIM with a chip on it that allows reprogramming. So very similar to point 1, except you can reprogram it yourself.

The concept is clear enough, but "reprogram it yourself" raised my curiosity. Does it mean the same as other's whereby you download a profile from a Data supplier or there is more technicalities to this programming bit you mention?

Seems they are not yet ready for the mass market, which would have disturbed the esim.me & 5ber esim applecart ! (with such limited production/sold out).

Pity, the Website says sold out. must be a very limited batch porduction !

Was willing to try one. ANyone have expereince of using it in phone/s?
instead of the GL.iNet ones, have you tried the 5Ber one yet, some people on here have it including myself, so known to work fine with it's own app etc?

decent price, nice they've built the software into their routers too

is the card US only at the moment? If I change to EU/Global/UK store it's not there and US store will only ship to US

I wonder if their router can load profiles onto the 5ber cards,

I also keep meaning to try the usb card reader I bought off AliExpress for a couple £ but I've not actually had a new esim profile I've wanted to put on the 5ber.

i should think it probably can. i would think these are a standard / use the same tech.

@dabigm @meritez @davegr @sufferingsam and all, have you got a 5ber referral code?

Want to order one after getting fscked by esim.me's poor app and support.

BTW, if you got a rooted Android phone you can program the esim.me card with just OpenEUICC Magisk module (installs an app automatically). Works just fine, well with a little bit of fiddling, but worked.
