5G CPE MC888 looks a beast

I take it is from the Ebay link you posted, what grade did you go for?, it looks like there was a sticker of some sort on the side that has been removed.

Is there an option in the menu to turn UPNP on/off

Cheers.
Went with grade C and honestly don't see any signs of damage on the router. The side has a 5G logo if that's what you're referring to? It is part of the design looking at the product page: https://ztedevices.com/en-eu/zte-mc888-router/

I can't seem to find the option to turn UPNP on/off

The ZTE 888 has the UPNP here.

Ahhh I'm using the my ZTE 888 in bridge mode at the moment which is why it was missing

Cell locking is improved according to the above video. To turn off cell locking you can just enter 0,0 and reboot instead of having to do a factory reset.

Be carefull, I've noticed a few of the later ZTE's Devices do not come out of a Cell Lock after a Reset if the original ZTE Firmware doesn't have an Cell Lock option and your forcing it with 3rd Party Trickery.

So, despite the good condition it is not worth the money when the 7010 is well under £200 on eBay?

Other people might have different results, what i find odd is when i tried the 7010 a few months ago, it was worse than the MC801,same area in the loft and time, i plugged it in yesterday and it did an update, and then it was better.

For those who also read German, the following I already reported it here.

I encountered a pretty weird bug with the UK import of the MC888 (before and also after the firmware update to the B8; doesn't matter) where after some time, clients cannot communicate with each other anymore (TCP-)port wise while ICMP oddly enough still goes through.

Wifi <> Wifi: all good, no issues
LAN <> Wifi: ICMP only*
LAN <> LAN: ICMP only*

*haven't tested UDP yet, but lack of TCP is severe enough to render the whole setup pretty useless

Considering that all clients share the same subnet, I can only explain that issue by further assuming that the ZTE MCs do some kind of transparent L2-firewalling which behaves more than weird here. Otherwise, it hardly makes sense that a pure frame to frame switching environment would forward frames only containing L3-ICMP but not on top L4-port stuff which is entirely out of scope of any switch.

After a restart, it works again until it doesn't.

Has anyone witnessed the same problem?

Three send me the mc888, just connected it they released it 4 days ago they said.

Noticed that more advanced settings are under Developer.

Oh they must have ran out of the soap dispensers now, although it's still on their website.

Don't think the MC888 is that different from the MC801A, bar missing its antenna sockets.

What do you think of it so far?

Anyway, thanks for sharing NoFFace. (y)

Sounds like 5G problems on 2 of them by a user above, that sounds a bit familiar. :(

Hopefully a three supplied version has any 5G problems sorted out now though. 🤞

Have you 5G available NoFFace and is it working ok?

It is working on 5G from around 3am, before that I am on 4G for stability for lower latency and packet loss.

They send me this one as where I live is problematic due to physical signal blockage with high buildings and I have tons of masts around me apparently.

So far, besides a snappier interface - I guess due to better hardware - a few changes in the interface, deactivated the auto-update to not loose this firmware that enables me activate other options that might get blocked later by update.

Under the rounter the sticker comes with user as "user" and a random password.

Here are some screenshots of options I have noticed different from the 801, which I don' think needed any repalcement by they insisted in giving a go since my specific location is very troubled, even they suggest me to cancel the service due to signal blockage and apparenty there is infraestructure maintenance that antecipates finish works for around November, they suggest also to me to keep calling them in order to have discount giving my situation. I don;t really have any other option, other than tether my phone via USB (GiffGaff/O2) on 4G and works much better.
(for reference as mentioned to me, is not about bandwidth but QoS, ping and ping variation, drop packets etc.)

Honestly I can't wait to move out of this place when the contract ends. This makes miss ADSL times.

On the login screen you can see:

On the main page quick bar is more limited I guess due to user I am using but I havent found a higher permission user, if you know I appreciate:

Great stuff, yes a lot different from the MC801A there for sure.
I think the biggest positive feature there is that it has cell locking as well as band locking, which is quite rare and often wanted by users.

I remember my MC801A still updated with auto update turned off, hope yours doesn't do the same.

Hopefully three don't remove the band or cell locking features in future updates.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to post your screenshots NoFFace (y)

I think they do actuually supply this router now on business accounts. (y)
