This is what happens, honestly if I want to play now only via 4G on my phone, but on this router/network only around 11pm on 4G.

Any ideas? I have the router in the best place I could get better dB. If there is anything with little investment I can do to improve for the remaining time I am in this spot then I can consider but all goes through buy expensive equipment is something I would not do since this is temporary connection for another maybe another 5/6 months.

Thank you

Hi all just wondering if the mc888 has a data counter or something similar?? Am on a “unlimited” plan with ee but it’s really 1tb

You would hope so as both the mc801a and mc7010 do, but I have yet to see the user interface for the mc888.

Can anyone help me out, I seem to have lost the internet on WiFi. I can connect to the WiFi but it’s like the internet is not there. Connecting via Ethernet or with a Tp-link access point that I have plugged is fine. I will add that I have had them all working ok up until a week or so ago when I tried to get my Plex server to work with port forwarding (I did not :9 )

not sure if I enabled or disabled an option incorrectly. Doing a factory reset didn’t help either

edit: never mind, got it sorted

Is anyone using a phone connected to the port on the back ??? just wondering which phones work and if any VOIP will do

Assuming it's the same as the MC801A I had, you can connect any landline telephone to it for VoLTE phone calls using the SIM Card inside. But it wasn't configurable for VoIP or anything.

This 5G device is a piece of ****. It is my first time using 5G for broadband so not sure what the benchmark is in the market.
  • It doesn't allow for multiword long wifi passwords as it forces you to add numbers and special characters. Meaning I have to reconfigure all my smart devices or just use another device for wifi.
  • It hangs in router mode even when you explicitely enable bridge mode, it still gives a local IP address to my router. The only way I found to make this work is to reset the router and switch to bridge mode before plugging any device to the ethernet port. If you plug a device to ethernet while in router mode it will never switch back to bridge mode correctly unless you reset it.
  • And finally the routing performance is abysmal. Running iperf3 from a laptop connected to wifi to a server connected to LAN on the MC888, I get max speeds of 200 maybe 300 Mbits/s. Running in bridge mode (double NAT that is because the stupid MC888 doesn't switch to bridge correctly) and using a mini intel pc as router, and a cheap Tenda AX3000 repeater as wifi AP, I saturate the 1Gbit ethernet link of the repeater when running Iperf3.

So much hype yet falls short to do what a basic router is supposed to do. I have seen speeds up to 400 Mbit/s download, but during the day hovering mostly around 80 to 100. Upload speed is problematic, never above 20. Not sure whether it is Smarty throttling or something else.

I am about to leave three after almost 2 years of a nightmare internet life.
I have tried SMARTY sim card on my mc888 and I notice that when the conditions are good, SMARTY performs better (not sure if is because of saturated network) but as far as I know they use the same infra?

At this moment in my area there is (again) another mast maintenance that affects both Three and Smarty, both of them are crap. I ended up canceling Three after today once again I got asked by the 10000th what packet loss is by the "tech" depart.

I will be installing a ADSL service instead, never thought going back to copper in 2024 but is the only option I have where I am living before I move out because of this reason, is needed for work too.

Shame that I'd have to send this mc888 back. Would be a nice backup line in case adsl gets bad, I could use my phone SIM in it.
Buying a 5G device, is a cost I want to avoid after this experience anyway, I think I'll tether the phone if gets bad - survival mode :D

Hello everyone!
Does anybody by chance have any firmware/dump from MC888 Ultra? Any operator and country is absolutely fine.
