5G CPE-PRO2 keepings falling back to 4g

I was using a SMARTY sim for a month and i had this issue then as well, but i was messing around with router settings and it seemed to sort it and it never happened again. Sicne then i stupidly did a factory reset and the issues are back. I have changed every router setting i can think of.

I was thinking it could be APN related but problem is i need a non CGNAT for my work from home, My router will fallback to 4g at least 4 times a day, when it drops back to 4g it sticks there until i change the APN back and forth (3internet) and then magically it will be fine on 5g for hours.

This three sim i have is DATA only sim i dont know if that would make a difference.

A similar thing happens to me, although I am not in a 5G area, I was able to use HuaCtrl to lock to B28 (700MHz) and this gave me a solid 5G connection for a few months from a mast 1.5 miles away. Now B28 connects to some slow mast and I no longer have the 5G so have resorted to using 4G+ again. Only occasionally will the router lock to 5G for a brief moment.

I did download the HiLink app and selected "5G Only" but this buggered up the connection and I had to reset the router.

I don't know if this router is capable of a 5G only connection however I notice on an Arab forum they have a mobile app which has a "5G NSA" option, whether this works or not I am not sure. They have a thread discussing the app here (put it into Google Translate if your Arabic is rusty):

Selecting '5G Only' will indeed mess things up connection wise, as 5G in the UK still relies on the 4G network to operate, so far there is no widely available stand alone 5G.

One day though, just not yet. :giggle:

I'm curious about the "5G NSA" option with CPEManager mentioned in the Arab forum, I wonder if the CPE Pro 2 is capable of locking / prioritising 5G with this option?
