5G router + External Antenna vs Outdoor router for gaming?

Hi. I’m thinking of signing up to Three 5G home broadband. Can only get 20mbps VDLS line at my address. I have good 5G coverage according to the map. It says 5G should be available both inside and outside of the property.

I need to use the 5G for gaming though so require low and constant ping without any drops.

Three provide a free indoor router (Zyxel NR5103EV2). It has 2 external antenna ports on the back of it (not sure if both for 5G or one for 4G and one for 5G):

My question is, for gaming will it be necessary to install an external antenna on the exterior of my apartment?

Also, I’ve been reading about outdoor/indoor router combo setups. These in particular;

5G (Askey) RTL6300 (outdoor) + WiFi 6 5G RT5010W (indoor) (this was a setup EE used to provide but no longer do):

ZTE MC7010 (outdoor) AND T3000 (indoor):

(Both EE and Three used to provide these outdoor router setups (no only available used) but for some reason they seemed to have ceased providing them.)

How much better will my service likely be with an outdoor router vs just having an outdoor antenna connected to the free Three router. Is this necessary

Thanks

I have the Zyxel NR5103EV2 on Three and I get 20 to 25ms ping and up to 480 Mb download with twin external antennas. Internal I only got 4G, which had a 60ms ping.

Gaming happily with a 20ms ping!

if latency is the major factor, stick with VDSL. it's going to be far more consistent than any wireless option.
I am on a 20mb VDSL plan using an 8 year old supplied router and I can confirm that gaming performance is smoother than The Wee Bear's shiny head. I get average 35 ping wireless and a solid 11 ping when wired to Nintendo Switch tv dock.

Sorry Wee Bear 😢

Please accept this one year unlimited max Talkmobile E SIM plan as an apology gift \/ 😃

@The Wee Bear Did you had any Wired Copper/Fibre boardband before you got those Zyxel wireless routers?
Yes I had FTTC from Scottish Hydro, and before that, every dial up provider you can think of.😁

And before that I was lucky enough to be able to use Prestel.

I even used 2 satellite internet services as well many moons ago, long before Starlink was even an idea, Europe Online and Starspeeder. :)
