5G Upload Speed Three

I currently use Three 5G on my phone. I get fairly good download speeds, according to the speedchecker.

However, upload speeds are abysmal. They barely push 2 megabits (yes, bits). Sometimes, the upload speed is less than 1Mb.

I am located in Reading. I have tried my flat, and tried my work for upload speeds and get similar speeds at both locations. Not sure if I am using the same mast or not, as work and home are 2mi apart.

I have a 5G modem that I will try to use with my simcard, and see if that makes a difference. I last used my 5G modem about 2 years ago now, using Vodafone 5G. I can’t remember the exact speeds, but I was not disappointed with the upload or download speeds!

Any suggestions? Ty.

Good plan to try the modem as 2 Mbps upload is hopeless if you are on real 5G! Ask your friends/colleagues to run a speedtest on their phones or even swap your sim into another phone to test.

There are others here that know more about this than I do, so wait for more feedback, but the way I understand it is that no one uses real 5G yet. The 5G we get still relies on 4G (eg: for uploads).

Three/Smarty's 4G performance is bad in some places and you end up getting high download speeds via 5G and terrible upload speeds via 4G.

Solutions? I think only a different network can fix the problem.

I tried using my 5G modem - mixed results.

The upload speed is better, around 4Mb. The download speed is low double digits, around 10-14Mb.

I thought I would check to see if this was a WiFi issue, by switching to Ethernet. My PC would not connect via Ethernet, and I didn't have time to diagnose it before work.

But Ethernet and WiFi network settings are the same, on my PC.

If your 5G is linked to a B20 upload then this may be the reason for poor performance. Use cellmapper to find out what alternatives are available. B1 or B3 will give much better uploads if you can use band locking with your router to one or both of those.
At those low speeds wi-fi won't be a problem unless you're close to being out of range. The InSSIDer app should give you an idea of how good your wi-fi is.

I went to London over the weekend. I noticed that I had a 5 bar 5G signal at one time. I decided to do a speedtest using my phone. I got a great down speed (200Mbs+), but a poor upload speed of a couple of megabits.

As for Wi-Fi, I have it before where I was connecting my PC to the Wi-Fi, and I could not get a stable connection, if I was lucky, I would be getting a meg or two, up/down. I was told try to use an Ethernet connection, which I did, and I noticed that I was getting the actual speed I was paying for.

I don't know what a B20 is, sorry.
