A Year With 3 for home broadband.

Stageshoot

Well its been a year since we signed up with 3 for our home broadband.

Was not the year we expected but what can we say..

Moved to 3 from Virgin Cable, Reason being we wanted more even download/upload speeds Virgin were great for downloads but upload speeds were terrible. Paying over £25 a month for 50 Down 4 up was not what we felt a good deal.

Did some tests with 3 using a B525 and finally settled on a B715s

This produces solid 60-70mbps down and 30mbps up all day and night from a tower about 1.5 miles from us (Can just see the top over the treeline), Rural Tower that mainly serves a Motorway service station.

Three did unlimited data/calls/texts for £16 as a new sim to go alongside our existing mobile sims, on a 12 month sim only contract.

Usage.
Oct 19 375gb
Nov 19 324gb
Dec 19 269gb
Jan 20 245gb
Feb 20 632gb
Mar 20 1042gb
Apr 20 2471gb
May 20 897gb
Jun 20 356gb
Jul 20 258gb
Aug 20 219gb

so an avg over about 350gb a month (apart from the 3 lockdown months that averaged about 1.4Tb a month over them)

So going into another year, just going to leave the SIM running for now, as I dont think they will discount any more

Am just on the edge of a 5g tower from the front of the house but as its really borderline I am getting speeds worse than from the solid 4g connection at the rear, so hope they will upgrade the motorway services tower to 5g soon and then I will invest in a 5g box, instead of the 715s but being honest the 60-70 down and 30 up is great for what we need..

I know others have issues with 3 and it really does depend on usage in your area, but for us its been a great cheap year of reliable Broadband.

I am glad. I am sure 3 is great in less populated areas. Where I live (n london), radio signal is ok and speeds similar to yours in the morning and late at night, but outside that it can go down to 3-4 Mbps down, 1-2 up, unusable really...
They got big pipes, but not enough water..

What kind of speed difference did you get between the two routers? Are you aggregating bands?

the 715 is about 10mbps faster for me on average

and yes I am binding 1800 and 2100. I can also add 800 but it does not make much difference and find it more reliable with just 1800 and 2100
