Absolutely Horrible

 If you are ever considering joining Pipex, please don't! Read what other people are saying about Pipex, then pay particular attention to what is being mentioned time and time again. Don't be tempted by any of their offers or them being cheaper than someone else. I only wish I followed this advice, then I would not be in the situation I am in today.

During the first 4 days of joining Pipex (December 2005), they sent me an email to say I reached my 1GB download limit, even though I had not been on the computer for a couple of days and the only thing I do is surfing and emails. That took a while to convince them not to charge me extra. From then on, they went downhill fast.

Don't bother to send emails - they don't answer them. Don't bother to ring them either - their staff are completely oblivious to what is being said. Don't bother writing - they just ignore you. I have received an answer to my letter, but they completely misunderstood me. Instead, they chose to suspend my account and have refused to give me my MAC code. They even had the cheek to want me to pay for cancellation fees as well as purchasing the modem.

I have had 4 months of hell with this ISP. Just don't do it - you will be really sorry if you join them. Trust me, I have regretted ever becoming part of Pipex!

The brother-in-law is with Pipex and he's more than happy with his connection. They use their connection mainly for surfing, but have been known to use p2p from time to time without any problems.

Try using a download meter such as NET METER to monitor your bandwidth useage. At least you'll be able to quote some figures back at Pipex if they ever query you're useage.

If you're using a wireless network I'd make sure it's secure, just in case one of you're neighbours has started using your connection.

1 GB is a very small download limit and remember it probably includes your uploads to so it would be quite easy to go over this. Realistically you should of monitored your bandwidth useage before signing up for such a restrictive package. Had you been viewing any streaming media contant, did anyone else use the computer at all, did windows or any other software auto download updates? There are lots of ways you could of clocked up a gig of transfer.

I would suggest if they have suspended your account because of a non payment that you try to negotiate with them and maybe in exchange for prompt payment service being reinstated they would consider transferring you to a more generous package.

Remember even if you do get a mac code or get the adsl cancelled and sign up with a different ISP that pipex can still come after you for any balances/fees they claim are outstanding. So its probably better and cheaper to try and work things through with them.
