Accessing e-mails after leaving Tiscali?

I am intending to leave the Tiscali (Tiny) unmetered package, as it has been too unreliable for me to use - server hanging /failing to connect/ disconnecting far too often, but am concerned about how I can still access my e-mail until I've notified everyone that might mail me.

I see from other posts here that they don't allow you to transfer from an unmetered packed to pay-as-you go, which would be the easiest solution. If you cancel the unmetered, then sign up again immediately on the pay-as-you go, can you still use the same e-mail address?

- has anyone else changed from Tiscali and found a good way not to lose e-mails?

Thanks,
Carol.

Hi Carol,

If you leave Tiscali you need to give them a months notice which should give you enough time to notify friends / family as to your new email address. I doubt very much though that if you signed up again as pay-as-you-go that you could retain your previous address as that would have already been allocated under your old account. I've moved around so much from ISPs that I actually bought a domain name from Uk2.net so I could use their email forwarding service. Very handy as you can supply friends/family with one fixed email address which you can then redirect to which ever email account you choose.

Suggest u look at www.mail.com it's all u need.

Just thought you might be interested to know...

i was with cable and wireless, but i gave up on them when NTL took over. However, over a year later, i can STILL receive emails on my old cable and wireless account thru outlook express!! i cant send though! does anybody know why this is?

ntl were going to finish off c+w last november but then another group bought them up & promised to keep them (c+w accounts) going another 6 months (i can't remember exactly).

mail.com is packing in it's free forwarding services anytime now so forget them.

uk2's multiple forwarding email is the only email service i would pay for, but i got mine before they started requiring you to buy a domain to use it!

try go.to as in your.name@go.to matching URL & email forwarding, & it's still free as far as i know.

don't forget good ole yahoo! free forwarding with their mail. or nme.com. jeepers there's loads of it! why don't you try surfing a bit? :-)

I was with Tiscali and left them recently when you cancel your account which takes immediate effect give or take a day (Thats tiscali's immediate :) ) your account stays active so you automaticaly go onto pay as you go but they won't tell you that or it's very hard to get out of them.
I can access my old e-mail account no problems but I just check every now and again because I kept getting ping requests from tiscali all the time which my firewall got quite upset about. :)

u need to be dialed into the ISP for the email account u wish to send from. No ISP will let u use its SMPT (outgoing mail) server unless u are actually dialled into that ISP.

yea i agree, getting your own domain name is the best bet and using it's POP server address for your current ISP account. dial up's are getting so unreliable now you could feasibly be changing ISP every month.

cheap broadband please.
