adsl max premium (first day scary experience) :(

well all i just upgraded from the shoddy entanet 8mb to the vispa 8mb business or adsl max premium package with the extra upload of 884k v the normal 448k and apparantly the max gets priority on the bt network so one would expect better pings?

wrong! well kind of :P all was well when i first fired it up and rebooted my router.at 7am it was bliss i had the full 7.1mb speed and 0.68mb upload and 25 ping to www.vispa.com 32ms to jolt.co.uk in london from a rural town in west of ireland.

after 10am things got nasty though gaming was unbareable with 200ms pings, iplayer hd said i had not enough bandwidth when its own speedtest said i had 6999kbps but a streaming rate of only 1688kbps? any chance vispa cap iplayer? thier website states clearly no traffic shaping.

how is this possible i thought by paying almost £35pm for a so called premium package i would get 7mb 24/7 and low pings?

all in all a bad day im just waiting to see how my second day goes and how vispa repsond to my mails.

Hmm it's possible Vispa's MAX might be trying to re-train your line (10 day period) like when you first joined the Entanet 8Mbps service. I'd give it a few days and could you also post your router stats from the new connection?

hey mate i just had a email from vispa's tech support and they say one of thier routers has a fault and its overloaded and it should be fixed by the end of the week so heres hoping it is.

if not this is going to be one laggy and bad christmas and i will never forgive them for that!

the router stats are

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 832 kbps
Line Attenuation 5 db 1 db
Noise Margin 13 db 14 db

*edit*

apparantly whoever told me the router was faulty lied, it may be overloaded but faulty and overloaded cmon whos leg u pulling :(

i had an email from them saying

"One of our routers is running above 60% capacity, this is due to an influx of customer's from the recently disbanded Upstream Internet and we have also moved Titan's DSL services onto our network from Entanet. We have this week implemented a new 21st Century Network, which will allow a higher bandwidth allocation and reduce ping times and increase user's speeds. We envisage this network to be fully migrated and completed on thursday"

i find it disgraceful they even accepted me as a new customer when they knew they had so many coming in from titanadsl.they knew this in advance as i was a titanadsl customer.

now i have to wait 5 days with a connection thats not even useable.i play games and my pings are currently 200+ms from a normal 25-30ms.

ive asked for my bill to reflect this and them to dedict the days that the router is faulty so lets just see what they offer me.

I'm not on the MAX service, but I am having some persistent problem with pages not loading; sometimes I have to click refresh 3-4 times before I get the page, all sites all times of the day.

I used to get that with orange during peak times untill I changed to openDNS.

very interesting about the influx of customers from titanadsl jediadsl. i've been with vispa for over 5years and on the whole they havent been too bad but at the start of this year things slowed to a crawl and i was busy researching other isps but when ur on an exchange with only 2 llu providers, and not very good ones at that (orange+talktalk) i didn't have much else to choose from.

i was thinking of one of the Entanet providers but then they started to suffer from oversubscribed network issues too, but wait vispa emailed me saying there was going to be a big upgrade in the summer and they were true to there word. speeds were back to the vispa of old and things were flying but now i'm sorry to say we're back on our knees crawling again.

youtube/ bbc iplayer vids r constantly stuttering and when my router is synching at 7000kbps i'm getting speedtest results of

or usually less and pings are all over the place. my exchange goes adsl2+ in 3 months so i'm gonna hang on till then and review my options.

@johno, I am already using OpenDNS!!! :crap:

well i had a call from vispa today and they have sorted basically everything for me and said sorry and made a good will gesture so bravo to them to be honest.

im happy now

Can you still ping sites when pages can't be displayed?

No, I dont think this is a Vispa problem though, rather BT failing to correct a problem that damaged my line 2 years back.
The overgrown tree that destroyed my last line is damaging my new one and I suspect a micro-fracture is causing signal loss when the tree branches move (my line being tangled in them).

Crappy BT wont trim the tree and will not order the (factory) land owner to trim the tree; and my polite requests have fallen on deaf ears.

Now I am just waiting for the line to get ripped out before sending them (Morgan Car Company) legal notice that I am suing them for the cost of the line replacement and loss of connection.
