My zen internet 2mb at 12:11am 25th Jan

My Netgear NG834G MTU showing at 1458 as this is normal set by BT and my exchange is only 1.83km away from my house

I just tried a few speed tests with an MTU 1458, it was only between 10 & 12 kbps slower on average for my 1mbps connection than my normal setting, so not worth worrying about.

Optimum (often MTU =1478 or MTU=1430)

Downstream 979 Kbps (122.4 KB/sec) 1057 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 244 Kbps (30.5 KB/sec) 263 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Zen Internet

I was very surprised that the most well known isp Zen Internet as one of the best broadband quality in UK and the most expensive on home 2mb at £34.99 as the speed is my 1st time awful poor and very very slow as a snail speed dropped below 250k. I always get best performance over 1840k for the whole week with Zen except today was a big let down by poor ADSL speed test. Here is my first two test results:

Zen internet 2mb at 6:21pm
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=de2afdcd109312591b4d2c933ed
Downstream 268 Kbps (33.5 KB/sec) 289 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) 262 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Zen Internet 2mb at 6:34pm
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=7c4e701a109313178363d457915
Downstream 736 Kbps (92.0 KB/sec) 794 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 248 Kbps (31.0 KB/sec) 267 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I won't be complaint to their support centre because I was expecting to migration over to NDO anytime next week. But overall, that Zen does a best performance speed for most of the times during both peak and off-peak hours and weekend but today, it just a big drop in speed. Probably my exchange get very heavy traffic today.

I am leaving Zen because of over priced £34.99 but never use pc alots these days, that why NDO suit my best need with cheaper at £19.99 with 10gb including for 2mb. I don't think that Zen will never get cheaper like capped it but Zen are always TRUELY UNLIMITED for last longer.

I don't believe it until you paste the url link of adslguides proof of your speed test results because it sound like you making it up yourself ! I don't mean to be rude or offence to in any way, but just post the real url link of yoir speedtest results then I believe when I see it.

to get a full 24Mb on ADSL2+ you REALLY need to stay across the road from the exchange with a cable DIRECT to it and not looping up n down streets so I'm sorry to say I agree with the above post..

oh and my name isn't f'er tyvm

Yes I do agree with what TRIaXOR™ had say above the post that if your 24MB in full speed - it must be next door to your exchange otherwise down the street would be around 18Mb speed or less. There is no way that ADSL get full speed if I live away from my exchange even under 1km away.

I know myself quite clear when I get 8Mb upgrade as I probably get around 4Mb or 5Mb but full speed - not a chance !

bulldog regarding your slow 2mbit on zen and other isps have you checked your exchange for contention and the snr on your line as it sounds like your getting slow speeds on many different isps

my exchange is GREEN and my router snr are 32db (that's a good noise margin)
