Thinking about going with these guys for ADSL - what is the opinions of existing customers?

Very good, been with them for nearly a month on Home 1000...

IMHO the support is good and they are prompt, keeping you informed :)

Reports on ADSL Guide forum are all pretty good, there is a newish support forum here http://www.pipexsupport.co.uk/bbs/index.php . I have signed up with Pipex and will be activated between 7-15th Jan when the exchange is enabled here. Sorry I cannot give any real experience of the ISP but my gut feeling about it is good.:)

P.S Will be using a 4 port router for my connection but ordered the Speedtouch USB modem and 2 filters @ £17.53. The filters will come in very handy and the modem will be used as a backup.

Goose they have a good history of getting accounts activated early. So makes sure you check a couple of days before activation date.Mine for instance went live 4 days early.

Excellent so far - been on their 512/256 service since April, with VERY few problems. No speed problems whatsoever, and practically no random disconnections (half-a-dozen or so in over half a year!).

Nice touch - they email you to tell you if your local exchange is going to do some work, which might entail a few minutes of downtime!

Only minus point, to me, is the newsgroup service. Can be very slow. Still; I use alternatives.

I have been with Pipex for about 3months now.

Service is very good but have at least 3 outages unfortunately. No fault of Pipex in every case - but still extremely annoying.

Speeds is great and downloads are quick. Very good customer support. I have never had to ring there phone line because when there is an outage the website is immediately updated - always before I have even noticed!

I would recommend them,

Cheers,
Michael

I keep switching this router on to see if the Link led stays a steady green:laugh:

Ah well, the forecasts sound good - looks like i've chosen my ISP then! (just waiting on an RFS date!!) :)

Ross, I'm also looking for a new ISP. I can't move until March but I thought the sooner I find one the better!

Have you checked NDO? I've read good reviews about them.

The problem with ISPs seem to be that they might be pretty good now but not so much in a few months. I remember that plusnet and pipex were the one to go for a few months ago.

I don't want to enter in any 12 nor 6 months contract. I understand that NDO will ask you to pay the connection fee if you leave before 12 months and that is just fear in my opinion!

Yeah, i looked at NDO, but there not my cup of tea to be honest. I'm either gonna go with Pipex or Eclipse me thinks. Pipex are holding the number 1 position just now though, especially with their 'solo2go in a box' package.

Ross, I hope Pipex's Customer Service is better than it was back in August when I had to wait 20mins on hold, and they could not advise me of my application for extended reach.

Eclipse seem to be the best from the sources I have read.

Hey Ross,
Can I ask why they are not your cup of tea?
Ive used them for months and have been very happy with them.

Best wishes,
Lighterboy

I cannot digress into why i don't like them, lets just say "for personal reasons" ;)

Pipex is definetely is going to be! Eclipse, although very good and customer service being excellent, i'd rather go with Pipex and save a bit! :)

I have been with pipex just over 18 months few problems with email
price is ok contacted pipex by email got back to me ok never had a need to phone them and the free modem and line was the reason i went with them speed is ok and service is stable so far i am happy.

IP, those are the kind of posts that are most helpful when making a desition. Long term customers!

I quite like Pipex but I think I'm going to go with PlusNet. There's not a lot of differences between them, I just think PlusNet has a better record on customer support.

I also looked at Eclipse - Not for me! NDO was another isp I considered very strongly.

I have already contacted AOL to get my CBUK number and I just need to give them another call at the end of Feb. Then I'll be able to contact PlusNet and set the migration in motion.

AOL has been very relible. Customer support is OK. AOL software is C.R.A.P. Speed is good enough for me but I wont complaint if I can surf faster :)

I have been trying for the last few days to arrange payment of my ADSL service, but cannot get through to their call centre (I don't have 14 hours to hold in their queue *sarcasm*!!!!) I have emailed them and emailed them, and all I have got is an automated response that someone will get back to me! Nothing!

Even when I emailed them for my CBUK to migrate to another ISP, I got an automated response with a promise that someone from customer retentions will contact me - nothing!

Stuff Pipex - been with them 2 years or more now and have suffered v.slow news servers, frequent login problems and email failures, and now they won't even respond to me even though I am contacting them to PAY for my service. I have had letter after letter from their autoaton stating that i will now be disconnected from the 12th if I don't pay them - I WANT TO PAY AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FOR 2 WEEKS NOW! If you disconnect me after all this Pipex - you can whistle for your £23.44 and I'll sort out another ISP - let's face it - AOL seems a better option at the mo!!!

Potential Pipex users - AVOID!

Here I come Eclipse Internet!

Simon - Very pissed off Pipex user

If they lock themselves onto my BT line, I will disconnect from BT and reconnect later on. Makes no odds to me really. They are being petty, so I'm gonna fight fire with fire.

One customer having problems won't destroy my 'opinion'. Every ISP has problems. But i do sympathise.

Remember though, it has been christmas and new year recently, so more than likely some departments have been understaffed and/or closed.
