Dear Sir,

Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your query.

The maximum line loss limit for the 512Kbs broadband connection is 60dB.

Kind regards,

They dont seem to have answered your question. Its possible that if you live very close to the exchange it could overload, but the attenuation of the line is normally adjusted for short lines for voic,e thats just so that you are deafened by the phone as most do not have volume control. It will not impact ADSL and a short line should make no difference at all other then you may get slightly better performance.

Shaun has 9db attenuation and he almost lives in the exchange :p

He has 2mbit fine, as WB said, being near the exchange can't harm anything, your modem and the DSLAM will reduce their power as they don't need to "cut through" so much noise on the line.

I have used Pipex for many many years.
Migrated from Dial to ADSL over 12months ago.
The support is appalling.
They lie, they charge your card when you instruct them otherwise, they never respond to emails, they are evasive and do not understand the definition of "support" and "service".

I called Nildram and they called me back!
I called Nildram Support, and they answered in seconds not minutes.
I emailed Nildram customer support, and received a response in less than eight hours. Twice!
Oh, and Nildram are cheaper.

Don't even think about going to Pipex.

I agree. I am still waiting for a 2 week refund, and have emailed them several times now and heard nothing back.

It's not the £12 that bothers me, but they pi**ed me off so much just before I left for NDO that I am making the point of it, and will take them to court for it if needs be.

There was once a time I said Pipex was GREAT GREAT GREAT!

Now I say to people AVOID AVOID AVOID.

'Nuff said!

I've just signed up for Pipex Solo 500 Lite (sounds like a low-calorie drink!)

The problem with ISPs is once they get to a certain size they are liable to be inefficient. Unfortunately you need an ISP of a certain size so that there is a guarantee they will be around in a year's time!

I detest Freeserve (my anytime dial-up conection), and will cancel that as soon as Pipex have enabled me (oo-er!) If you want to know why read my thread in the Freeserve forum. Save to say that they couldn't organise a bunk-up in a rabbit hutch and have refused to accept responsibility for a mess of their making and seem to expect the customer to be grateful that they are deigning to talk to them!

Pipex it is!

The customer services bods seem very nice indeed!

That is how I always weighed things up when making my choice and as a result, I have had no problem whatsoever.
