Adslmax Is A Nightmare

BT had enabled all exchanges in UK with many customers are looking forward to higher speed upgrade. There is a real story from entanet, zen, freedom2surf with adslmax worst nightmare. The speed kept changed varies from 512k to 8mb every hours even SNR was also reported a big drop. Exchanges is probably testing the line for the first 75 minutes before it become stable and higher speed are set. But BT had say it will carries out further test until after 10 days then it will set the speed for fixed. Many are fears that it will be a biggest problem (before was 2mb on line until adslmax and it stayed there at 2mb or further down the speed to 1mb.

On zen forum, many customers who are adslmax is complaints, not happy and rated BT are the worst ever. How sadly.

I think we ought to forget the adslmax for now and stick with stable of your current speed or face the worse ever! I think it too many problems but BT cannot fixed it because of over 5,000 exchanges in UK. It probably fixed and stable speed by end of the year.

No more exciting for adslmax. BT had let everyones down. :(

I think you can ring up or email your isp to opt out (not to regrade you to the adslmax) if you don't want adslmax for time being. Many of us don't want to see too many disconnected, speed kept changed, snr kept changed, probably will be even worse as it will struck for the first ten days. Once it upgrade to adslmax (you cannot downgrade back to old adsl like 2mb, 1mb and 512k on old adsl, I think BT won't do it anymore)

It very worrying time for everyones. It all BT fault as they seem doesn't bothered anymore of your line problem after upgrade to adslmax.

My bro had ring up plusnet to tell them to opt out (adslmax upgrade) as plusnet had accepted it as my bro want to stayed and stick with adsl 2mb stable speed to avoid adslmax.

I haven't decided yet ??? I want adslmax but I don't want a problem of mine as I am current happy with my adsl 2mb stable and solid rock speed all times. I am now fear of adslmax (worrying time)

Can all isp's rep post here of why is the adslmax cause the problem lately and what have gone wrong ? I got reply from Steve (aceinternet isp rep) had told me not to worry as it was normal way that BT are test the adslmax up to ten days and will continue to investigated after 10 days (if the problem still arise). Thanks Steve for understand me.

Im avoiding it for those exact same reasons as you, I have a solidly stable 2mb without error and speedwise it always performs well, so Im lingering to see what happens with everyone else first.

I could cope with varying SNR, and speed to some degree but the prospect of dropping from 2meg to 512k would be a nightmare. Plus for me at least I want to see how the traffic shapping on the eclipse adsl max service pans out.

Same here.

I am going to wait for a few months more before changing.

I am also thinking, will 4-5mb make a big difference to me? (This the max BT reckon I will be able to receive.)

I don't download a lot of files, but generally just "surf" and send e-mails.

Is it really worth changing?

Anybody that has upgraded would appreciate your opinions.

Regards

ADSL Max is rate-adaptive and for the first 10 days the line has to "train" and learn something called the "maximum stable rate" (MSR). When this process has completed it should then settle down at the MSR.

This will happen irrespective of when you regrade to Max.

adsl max has to be ordered unless yuor isp off choice is going to go to wholesale with a bulk regrade request

Ok, well i am on ADSL max as so far I have been getting speeds than i expected.

I was originally on 512k long reach, but now I am getting speeds just under 2mb. I know it has top "train" but so far it has not dropped too low.

Fimgers crossed it will stay good.

I was Max enabled today, and have gone from a solid 1 Mbit connection to a 512kbps to 2.2Mbit connection.

The router sync is very steady at 3168000 but I have not seen any transfers exceeding 270KB/sec, so It is not reaching 2.5Mbits or greater, despite the sync locking at 3 Mbits.

I am still happy as I have lived with 1 Mbit for a long long time, knowing full well that 2 Mbits would of worked fine.

I guess time will tell. I just wish it was a little more consistant with the speed.

Fingers crossed it will become a little quicker and more stable.

my ADSL max is working great, gone from a 1mb line to a 5.5mb one.
perfectly stable fast speeds - going really well...

perhaps its down to the ISP - mine NDO/Namesco have managed it all well, and they added an extra pipe last month i presume to ensure we all had the bandwidth to enjoy. not all isps manage thier networks in the same way, your slow speeds could well be down to network congestion at your isp as much as "bt problems".

lighterboy, it got nothing to do with extra pipe from your isp. BT had metion there is a error and problem arises with software kits at the exchanges and BT are looking into this problem and will fix it asap. Many isp's who doesn't have extra pipe can do so well, as for entanet, one customer is over 5mbps from 2mbps with one pipe....no extra pipe. So, it nothing to do with pipe, isp network. It all down how far to the exchange, the line quality, and exchange's software kits.

Nildram upgraded me on 10th April and my connection has been mildly unstable ever since, sometimes oddly resulting in my Router resetting itself when the line drops.

I had originally been on 1.1Mbps (perfectly stable), as with everybody else the initial upgrade placed me on 2Mbps (speed was fine, but disconnects every 20mins to 1hr+), now I'm at just under 1Mbps and still seeing disconnects. It's only the 2nd day in, so there's time for improvement.

I can’t shake the fear that the system may end up sticking me on 512Kbps for some ungodly reason, although hopefully there’s some safeguard in place to prevent you being given a slower speed than you had previously. 1.1Mbps was always perfectly stable for me, so I can only assume that disconnects are a result of the software BT use.

Interestingly BT predicted that my 1Mbps+ capable line could potentially receive 6.5Mbps prior to the upgrade. I always doubted that, but we’ll see.

It does seem that some peoples experiences are different too others, only time will tell. Hopefully Mark yours will settle down, mine seems rather stable.

Looking at my router logs it did re-sync in tthe early hours a couple of times yesterday, but no issues like some people are having considering that I live miles from the exchanges.

This morning I'm on 5.4Mbps, then a sudden disconnect occured and onto 5.16Mbps. Since then the speed has slowly been dropping and it's now down to 2.79Mbps.

It's certainly entertaining =).

I was speaking to someone at work, and he has explained to me what happens. Now the guy uses too much jargon, so i will explain what i can remember.

The router will sync at a speed, but you will not necessarily get that speed at first. The tests are being run to test the connection for the exchange to the router, but keeping your actual speed slower to keep the connecttion stable.

Then if the test is successful, it will then increase your speed to what the router has synced too. Apparently this takes 3 days, and in this time you should not re-boot your router at all!! (he was rather adament about that)

Now my speed according to adsl guide has increased and is more accurate to the router speed, but downloading for giganews has always been at about 1.8mb. So I'm a little confused.

I'm basically not touching a thing now, the router has synced a little higher again today. Will wait 3 more days to see if my speed increases.....i'm also going to try and find out if interleaving is turned on. When adsl max was ordered it was set to auto on the order.

I'm just full of info today :)

My line was regraded this morning and had went from 5020kbps to 4576 kbps which its currently at. First thing this morning it was appily downloading at 270k but now has went back to a 120k mak which is has been for the last year or so. I've had the router resync around 20 times today and I haven't a clue what its up to now.

I'm just going to leave it be and see what it does, as I already had an email from Plusnet saying my regrade was successful and to reboot my router to get the new speed, I have done this but there is only an increase in my upload speed and nothing extra down ( apart from breifly this morning that is).

I'll report if anything changes.:smilet:

well my downstream has dropped to it's lowest yet:

1856 kbps

I'm not surprised by this as 1.8mb is the download speed that I have been getting.

I am currently on 2MB ADSL through Metronet but was looking to go to ADSLMax as soon as possible until I read this thread (I only live 700m from the exchange and so should expect an improvement).

Before I changeover, are there any steps that you trailblazers recommend? In my case for example, my router currently sits on a DIY extension installed by the previous occupants. I was thinking that this may increase noise on the line (not enough to cause a problem currently as within the 2MB tolerance but perhaps enough to make a difference to the speed I get on ADSLMax). Has anyone tried changing this in a similar situation or am I just looking for problems that are irrelevant?

Also, is the noise measured purely at the BT side or from info fed back by your router? If the latter, are there any particular routers that are more tolerant?

Regards,

Dave
