Advice appreciated

It would have been nice to have been told why my post was deleted. You're censoring the wrong posts - I'm not the one spamming these forums.

I think we're witnessing a serious decline on these forums, despite the fact that the forum regulars are doing their utmost to hold things up.

What post was that?

And I do not think anyone was spamming!

Decline?, think you are just upset over the new blood!

Now I am lost what post I have remove one which DTXT asked to be removed and it was one of his so I obliged. Other posts Mark.J edited but original posters can still be seen. Sure you are in the right thread as DTXT is all over the place?

Lets consider the forum rules
3. Avoid making sarcastic postings that could be seen as abusive or inflammatory.
5. Try to post constructive comments and topics.

Definitely the right thread - here's a snippet of a cached page where the post was modified:

I'd previously posted (rightly or wrongly - now deleted) that two forum members who enaged in banter in this thread were a double-act and should be on TV.

Sigh....

oops sorry Unicast was me god I need to go dentest and stop taking pain killers I can only apologise to you Unicast.

Oh yeah I remember now...that partially influenced the banter and caused it too snowball...

Can anyone suggest an ISP and package for me please? To clarify, I'm currently on unlimited 4MB with Pipex. I'm after top, top reliability, fast speeds and a high download limit. If I would sacrifice one, it would be speed over the other two. I'm not prepared to pay over £25p/m for my internet.

Cheers guys!

To get back on topic.......

I have been on F4's 15.99 max for just over 2 months now, no p2p restrictions or port blocking, speeds usually over 6MB.
Apart from a minor DNS issue I have no complaints whatsoever & if your not fussed about free support & web space addons etc etc then they are imho worth considering.

Thats weird I pay 4p less per month than you Zag, lol every little helps!
Seriously though totally agree and the only DNS thing I had was when it was reported on the status page. Pluss all the 'extras' people talk about are being subsidised by THEMSELVES!, I mean Id rather they spend the money where it matters which they clearly do.

16:30:47 Technical Support Hi, there were some ADSL authentication problems earlier today although this should now be resolved.

Kind Regards,
Nick

Now I'm not religious or anything but thats what I call a Sunday Service.

i think thats the point mel is making, true unlimited really does cost that much.

potentially if a user thrashes an 8 meg connection 24/7 the costs for the isp can potentially run into the thousands (says an isp rep although i forget who). so yeah the price isnt bad at all

Perhaps you mean Steve of Ace Internet, who as I recall offered true unlimited adsl MAX for a few months until their supplier introduced throttling to protect the other services they supplied.

....Basically I am currently with a very, very small ISP that has gone bust called....

This says it all really.

We provided unlimited ADSL for 3 years. Then MAX came along with an influx of heavy users. Unlimited MAX ADSL cannot be done - full stop. It simply costs too much to provide (can be as much as £1400 per month).

ManOfMeans if I was in your postition I would definitely switch too Fast4, you have £20 too lose if you want to leave within the first twelve months but a hell of a lot of money you could save!

My connection is paid for by work and I am one of the lucky ones to be on a LLU exchange, I wouldn't change ISP's at all, I am one very happy customer.
In one phone call I can have my line rate changed from a fixed rate 2 meg to their version of MaxDSL, have interleaving enabled or disabled etc, just want them to roll out ADSL2+ to me now.

Mhm well you know ADSL2 is available from some of the LLU ISP's but ADSL2 from any other ISP depends when your exchange is set for the 21cn switchover.

My ISP has the equipment already for ADSL2+ but not using to its full potential, there is Be* sky etc on my exchange but I wouldnt get the support and flexability i do now with them as with Zen. No worries about BRAS profiles due to low sync from time to time (I have a aliuminum line for 1km), pings in the single figures with interleaving disabled which is handy with gaming.

I also like the newsgroups which for free are quite good and get full speeds of 500+k/s which is plenty enough, if fast4 or any other ISP could offer me a better overall package then i wouldnt think twice about changing but I do get what I pay for!

lol sure, how come the heavy aluminium line?, take it upon yourself lol?

lol sure, how come the heavy aluminium line?, take it upon yourself lol?

The line was put in the 70's from the green cab and all pairs are aluminium to this street with only 3 houses having broadband 1 of which is cable, I get a good speed from my line and no where near what a BTWholesale provider can give due to the systems involved, i get a more "raw" internet connection without the systems trying to restrict me.

Its like driving a car with all the new electronic systems doing to work rather than the human taking control.

heavy aluminium line?

If aluminium is as heavy as copper would mean as dense which would give a better connection the whole reason my line is bad over all is the line isnt as dense therefore the aluminium isnt as heavy, simple phyiscs really.

Mhm...how close are you to your exchange?, I can see mine from the kitchen window! (thats the geek inside me bragging lol)
