Advice Welcome

Hi there,

I'm presently stopping with a mate. I've been using his Virgin Broadband (as I did in my previous address) and it's by far my favourite.

A little more expensive than the others but the speed and the unlimited usage is a big plus.

I'm soon to be moving into my own place. My priorities are (in order)

1. Price
2. Unlimited usage

Since I need a phone line too (10/month?) it seems it'll be in my best interests to get the Virgin Broadband Medium which is £17 since it doesn't require a phoneline.

I've been reading ISPreview and a few other sites to get an idea but im out of touch with these things. Funds are tight so saving a few quid here and there would be good.

I don't know if this helps but my mobile contract ends soon so if there is anyone who could save me money by bundling my mobile and broadband contract that would be good.

Anyway, thanks any help sent my way.

have a look at O" ! If you are on an unbundled exchange they might fit your needs and have a pretty good rep for bb

Thanks for the reply. What's

O" ! ?

I've just ran my postcode through the availability checker and I can only get national services. ADSL for me. Bah.

If you can get O2 on their unbundled services (i.e anything other than the "Home Access" product then you could pay as little as £7.34/month for up-to-8mb.

You would need:

  • A BT landline
  • An O2 mobile (it can be PAYG) to get the £7.34 price, otherwise it costs £5 more

But their service and customer service reputation is much better than Virgins (I am on the £7.34 package and would recommend them).

O2 seems to be getting a lot of favourable opinions in here. It wouldn't have been my first choice but i'll take a close look.

Thanks for the advice. Alternative opinions are of course welcome.

They are good as long as you don't mind the 12-month contract (which Virgin has too). You just need to check you can get the LLU service from O2, as their BT-based service isn't competitive.

Well with a £10 BT landline and £12 for O2 that's 22 for broadband.

That's more than I'd hoped to pay. Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look around see if I can get cheaper. I've not examined Virgin's national service yet.

Stri, you get what you pay for, I pay a LOT more for a capped service, but am happy to do so because of the service I get; my connection died Monday morning, I phoned then from work at 10am and they had BT out fixing the problem by lunch-time; compare that to my sister on Orange, who took 16-18 months to fix her line problem.

Well it's true what you say about getting what you've paid for I guess I'm trying to cut corners as I have very little option.

Under other circumstances I'd be on Virgin, they've seldom let me down but I don't think that's an option.

Cheers

Okie dokie.

I think it's looking like O2 at the minute, judging from what you lot have said. Only other possibility is a bundled line and bb package

thanks again

Hello all,

Update: The house has no phone socket that I can see. I think this means a £120 setup fee with BT. Are there any companies which will wave this fee or is there any way around this problem.

Thanks

Is there a line from the pole to the house??
There might be a socket hidden away in a cupboard somewhere. (That is where my Gran's socket is hidden, in a cupboard in her living room).

I never thought to check that. I'm down there tomorrow so I'll check then.

Thanks Capt. Good luck with you lil lady by the way.

Thanks Capt. Good luck with you lil lady by the way.

I'm marrying my 'little lady' from Malaysia next week (met her in university), and I'm not a creep with a neck as wide as his head, and this girl has a British mother!

I'm scared shitless!

Thanks Jaheira, actually I have a very thick neck, over 18"!!

But I also have an enormous head, so it doesn't look too bad!!!!

I have come up with a way to pay for my impending marriage; I am going to sue every company that sells a hat labelled "One size fits all", cos they don't!!!

No posts by Stri since the 15th, I hope he hasn't mistaken a power socket for a BT socket and fried himself!!!

I do apologise unreservedly for any unpleasant comments I made the other night C_C; way too much to drink, and the demon inside temporarily took control!!

Total unjustified, unwarranted and out of order on my part. So all I can do is say sorry for any offence caused. Now what happened to Saturday!? Another day completely obliterated from my life!

Has someone been telling you how big and scary I am??

No worries, I didn't take it as aimed at me anyway; of course, if you are saying it was.......

(fetches baseball bat from under desk)
