Air Canada good will gesture is pathetic

I done a return trip to Canada with "Air Canada" the inflight entertainment flying out was a 15" screen per quater of the plane wow binoculars not included.

Returning back was a new upgraded system with seat back screens with on demand viewing great i thought and could not wait to get tucked in on our 9 hour flight from Vancouver to London Heathrow but then the 2 of us in my party amongst some others on the plane found out our screens were not working the rebooted them twice still to no avail we were told that they could not do it any more because it could catch fire. (i dont believe that one bit)

Any way they gave all affected customers a card with a claim number on it for a good will gesture. i went on line and inputed both the claim numbers awaiting somthing exciting in return . An email was received with another code for a 5% discount on a future flight great if you are a frequent flier to Canada. But not holiday travellers who go to Canada may be a couple times max during there life time if only once.

Oh and the codes have to be used by Sept 2009 and travel by then also.

Thanks Air Canada for nothing you give these codes out to get you more buisiness not for a good will gesture for affected customers.

I shall think twice who i fly to Canada with in the future.

This rings true for most of the longhaul carriers I have used with one exception:

-Virgin Atlantic

The others are terrible :) but yet I still fly them (i r cheap.).
The one small roof screen for nearly the whole cabin is not unusual in my experience.

Weirdly I prefer not having a seat back tv.. it means I can rest / switch my brain off without being tempted to look at the screen / watch a film :) I always feel less tired compared to flights which have had them.

i fly to the USA with virgin at least once a year (about to go for my 3rd time this year in a few weeks) and i love the seat back tv's. Last time however i used my iphone to watch video more than the inflight gizmo.

That more true than you think. The entertainment system sits just behind the cockpit, and has known on some older planes or refits to get too warm that pilots have reported smoke in the cockpit.

More worrying, i do believe this system resulted in bringing a swissair plane down some years back. :(

At the end of the day, your safety, rather than what you can watch is the most important thing.

l remember on american airlines they had little TVs embedded into the back of the seats, could what whatever l wanted which wasnt too bad.. its just the earphones costed like $20 it was a ripoff
